As for the physical withdrawals....72 hours. Some will tell you that smoking is the hardest of all addictions to quit. I can tell you, as a smoker for nearly 40 years, it was very hard but if you truly want it, you can do it.
I wouldn't worry to much about the weight gain. Quitting is much more important. If you find yourself eating more, then try carrot sticks and celery....toothpicks, straws are just a few suggestions.
Make sure you tell everyone that you are planning on quitting. They will support you and they will be your conscience.
