Chantix

I hear chantix is a miracle drug for those who want to quit smoking. I think they are the same company that makes some antidepressants.

However, I also read that people became suicidal on it and heard that people actually commited suicide.

I have severe anxiety and other related mental problems and am so scared to take that drug but I need to quit smoking.

Anyone who is on antidepressants took chantix?

update:  yeah, i had to quit the chantix after just a few days-i got very irritable, suicidal, miserable, crazy dreams, all bad-not worth it.  like i said before, if you take it, know when you don't feel like yourself-maybe ask others around you to tip you off if they think you are acting differently.  for me, it was not worth the way i was feeling-absolutely not.  might try hypnosis again...or acupuncture.  :-)

PLEASE be careful with Chantix!!!! I have seen commercials on t.v. talking about people having suicidal thoughts while on this drug and know someone that tried to overdose on Xanax while taking Chantix. It doesn't affect everyone this way, of course, but if you start to experience these feelings, stop taking it immediately and call your doctor.

Hi~I have been on anti-depressants but not at the time I took Chantix.  I would even call the pharmacist and ask if there is potential for problems taking both together.  I did have major side effects-mostly nightmares, bad sleep, bad stomach aches and nausea so I stopped it before I quit smoking.  I have started it again just two days ago.  I am taking it at night with over the counter sleep aid because I know that was the hardest part.  It also makes me a little cranky.  Definitely works for a lot of people, and some have no side effects at all.  As you start taking it, pay attention to how you feel.  I think it's very helpful to know what COULD happen ahead of time, then you will know if you need to call your doctor and you can be aware that it's the drug, not you.  For me the side effects were not enough to keep me from trying it one more time.  We'll see how I feel in a couple of days though...Incidentally, I am personally aware of more men having success with it as well as fewer side effects.

It has worked for me, my husband, my father, my brother and many many friends. My doctor actually used it and it worked for him so he suggested I try it. I had to quit smoking before they would do my tubal reversal surgery. It worked great!! And no suicidal thoughts at all with any of us!

Back to your question.

I think if you are taking it with anti depressants, you could get your psychiatrist to supervise you?

just a suggestion

Hi

My husband is starting this drug today, now I am a bit nervous about it!
The Doctor wants to see him after 2 weeks to monitor the side effects.  He has tried everything else over last 20 years, so for him, strong family history of lung cancer, it is worth trying it.

though obviously if he feels suicidal he will haved to stop.

It is not covered by health care here in Austria, but worth paying for 60 Euro for first two weeks.

Anyone else on it?
