I don't know if any of this is related to quitting smoking, but that's what I'm hoping is the answer. I stopped smoking around 2 months ago. I smoked for 20 years, about 1-1 1/2 packs per day. I noticed that I was having some chest pains and had occasional bouts of lightheadedness and went to the Dr. On May 3, they took blood, gave me an ekg and chest xray and almost all came back normal. My wbc count was slightly elevated and my triglyceride count was through the roof, so he had me take another blood test (which hasn't come back yet). About a week or two after my original blood tests, I started running a low grade fever that has been going on about 2 1/2 weeks now...never reaching higher than 101.7, but lately it's been around 99.5 ish. They put me on zpac and that didn't work, then they gave me levaquin which made my dizzy spells way worse and I only took it for 3 days before stopping. I am lightheaded ALL THE TIME. There may be a few hours throughout the day that I am ok, but it happens while I am sitting, laying down, walking, empty stomach, full stomach, doesn't matter. My pulse has been high - anywhere from 99-115 resting, whereas my usual resting pulse is around 84. I haven't had any problems in my chest other than the pains and some weird coughing - it's not actual coughing and there's no mucous or anything - it's more like my body is making me cough and my windpipe squeezes closed on me and makes it feel really tight. Sort of like when you dry-heave after vomiting...your body makes you do it even though there's nothing in there.
My dr. says there's something called a fever of unknown origin, but I'm thinking there MUST be some reason that I'm having all of these symptoms - Constant low-grade fever, chest pains (that have mostly subsided now), high heart rate, constant lightheadedness. Can this all be from quitting smoking? I went to the hospital last week cause it got so bad I needed immediate help - they couldn't find anything wrong with me either...said my chest xray was beautiful, my o2 sats were perfect, and my wbc count was normal - so WHY is this happening?? Even as I sit here right now, I'm so lightheaded and still get nightly fevers.
I made my Dr. give me STD tests as well, which I am anxiously awaiting the results....could these symptoms possibly be STD related??? Or...am I making myself nervous and it really all can be just from quitting smoking cold turkey?
Please help....I'm finding so much information on the net that I think I'm doing myself more psychological harm than help.
Thank you very much.
