SO SORRY BUT VERY PROUD OF U 4 STOPPING! I BATTLED A BAD DRUG ADDICTION 4 ALONG TIME AND JUST NOW GETTING READY 2 DETOX OFF METHADONE. I TOLD MY DR I WOULD LIKE THE PATCHS TO HELP BUT THEY ALL TELL ME ITS 2 MUCH CHANGE AT ONCE. WELL I GUESS BUT I BELIEVE IF U NEED A HEART TRANSPLANT AND U HAVE A CYST WHY NOT DO IT AT THE SAME TIME. I KNOW THATS KIND OF DRAMATIC BUT THATS WHAT THESE ADDICTIONS FEEL LIKE. AND ALL OF THEM HAVE THE POSSIBLE OUT COME OF DEATH. I WOULD LIKE 2 TALK MORE?

if you do not want to end up like i did then read on.i caught pneumonia, and was then diagnosed with COPD, this was caused by smoking, i immediatly stopped smoking as i would like to see my grandaughter grow up.the COPD had been progressing for twenty years without me realising something was wrong.

i posted this as a reply, but i have put it on here as a warning, of what will eventually happen to copd diagnosed people
who do not stop smoking, ask your doctor to let you have a day in the criticl care, when they have copd patients in there, if that does not stop you then you never will, here is an insite of what happens i was there.

,To: all smokers
after waking up in critical care ward in hospital, with a tempory trachea (thats not much fun) listening to other patients coughing and spluttering,
coughing up great big lumps of green or yellow phlem, at least one a night dying while i was in there, and i was in there a month, trying to sleep while these poor sods are really struggling to stay alive having to be washed and changed by the nurses
i was helpless for about 3.5 weeks, you lose all dignity but your that ill you don't care, when i saw the surgean i was told it was smoking related and i should stop, i promised her i would stop and did so,i have not had a ciggarett for 10 months,
but its not easy, i still get very strong urges, well it it easy i just close my eyes
and relive what i heard and saw,if you want to be one of those people in hospital then carry on smoking, watch the relatives sitting there numb crying for the person they just lost, another thing that i will never forget is the STINK WHEN PATIENTS HAVE POO'D THEMSELVES and the nurses are to busy to do anything straight away, and they have just served food , to the patients, do you want to be one of them.
if this has shocked then i make no appoligies, its the way it is 100% true
i was there.and i sure as hell don't want to go back there.
i went in with pneumonia, thats when i was diagnosed with copd.

STOP SMOKING NOW YOU CAN DO ANYTHING IF YOU TRY HARD ENOUGH.
i feel much better for not smoking, its hard yes, but you can do it, i still get a craving now and then but i will not give in.

You have made the right decision and now you have to decide if you can do it on your own or if you think you may need the help of some "quit smoking" aid. This is something you will have to do some research on, but if you want do it cold turkey, then there is an excellent site that will help you, help yourself. It is whyquit.com and even if you chose  to use something to help, you will learn a lot by reading the articles in Joel's Library.

It's not going to be easy, addiction is never easy to kick, but preparing yourself and knowing what to expect....educating yourself with the why's, these are all steps in the right direction.
When you have read and understand all the traps you will face, then just do it and never smoke again.....take control and never give in to those urges.....there will be plenty, but if you distract yourself long enough, the urges will pass, I promise. Make sure you surround yourself with only positive people. Stay away from smokers for a while, if you can.
Good luck and keep us posted. We are here to support you : )
