Introducing Myself Again

Since I just left a support group that I'd been with for a year, I probably need to reintroduce myself here since I haven't posted here in nearly a year.

I'm on my third serious quit.  The first quit was back in 1996 when I managed to stay smoke-free for about 18 months.  I then thought I could get away with a little puff.  I did.  For about 3 or 4 days; then I had a couple little puffs...we know where this leads.  Then I had quit for a bit over six months a few years ago but used the death of my best friend as an excuse to go back.

My current quit started August 4, 2007 after my doctor told me I was headed for a lot of problems and convinced me that a (then) 61-year-old man has no business smoking.

Its nice to see that KathyJo and Teko are still here and posting on a regular basis.  They were here when I dropped in for a bit last year around this time.

I'll try to be more supportive and hang around this time.

Thanks Kathy.  Its a successful quit today!   I have to keep some degree of vigilance as I approach the 18-month point where I slipped once before.  I've encountered too many people who have slipped after periods of as long as 8 years to ever feel totally safe.  I think this is something I have to work at some level for the rest of my life.  It's easier to think of working it for this week or this month though instead of an entire lifetime.  The longer I stay quit, the easier it seems - days go by without thinking about smoking at all.  I'm just saying I can't afford to become complacent.

Have a great day :-)
