Is it in my head?

I've been smoking for about six years. A pack lasts me 2-3 days. I can go a day without smoking no problem. Why can't I stop then? Am I truly addicted or is it just in my head?

Yes it is in your head, which is a very real physical manifestation of being addicted. My husband likes to crow that he only smokes a pack a week, but take that pack and tell him he cannot have any and watche the addiction at work! There are always two sides of an addiction and that is the physical and then the mental side. The mental one is the problem because its that one that determines your success at quitting. If you continue to smoke, in time and with certain circumstances you will be smoking more. Not to mention the insurance companies dont care how much you smoke, just that you do,

An addiction to anything isn't really a quantifiable number- it is less about the amount you smoke and more about not being able to stop. So yes if you find you need them and can't stop, I would say you are addicted to smoking.
