drugs stopping the cravings

I wanted to stop smoking for years and have stopped many times.  The longest I've stopped was about a week after a car crash and a busted lung.   A friend visited and offered a cigarette and without thinking I lit up and then realized what I had done but continued anyhow.  That was 1987 and I had already been smoking since ~1981-ish~.  About 2008 I really wanted to quit but it wasn't till April 2009 that I just didn't have any.  The day before I was still smoking about a pack a day but that one day I just didn't have any and have been smoke free since with no cravings at all.  It's my opinion that it's all because I truly wanted to quit as opposed to only thinking I wanted to quit.  However I wanted some input to be sure....

The night of April 17 2009 I had a heart attack with an on-pump bypass surgery on the 21st.  I know the heart attack had nothing to do with the decision but the drugs might have and is where my question is going...  Again, the heart attack has nothing to do with my want of quitting, I really wanted to quit before then.  I have heard of through the radio and TV shows that some people need drugs to quit which makes me wonder if any of my drugs had anything to do with this or not....

The first night I was pumped up with morphine.  I don't know how much, nor do I know how many days I was given this.  Other drugs involved were/are
Ace inhibitor,
Alpha and Beta blocker,
Amiodarone (spelling?)
the Amiodarone was only for two weeks.  Out of those listed, is there a chance any of these helped eliminate my cravings?

On a side note, a few weeks before all this I mentioned the busted lung and the hospital stay.  I also mentioned that I probably would need another hospital stay to quit permanently.  Funny how things worked out.

I think being ready makes all the difference.  Might of been the 6wks of oxygen that helped as well.  When we quit smoking, we have to get used to oxygen running through our veins again...maybe you just got a head start?

Congrats to you again, RadioAstronomyObserver!

Smokers always had to go outside on the front porch to smoke and the only time I'm exposed to that is bypassing them when leaving or coming home, or if anything drifts into the house.

Any ways, If you don't believe any of these drugs does anything to curbing the cravings then it was that I was ready to quit.  I figured it was a perfect opportunity and just didn't grab a smoke, nor did I have any craving for a smoke.
Thanks Terry.

Not reallyt sure about the drugs making you stop. My father had 7 heart attacks, 2 bypass, and 6 stents put in but he could never stop. I think maybe it is you good strong will to live!!
Congrads to you. 2nd hand smoke is awful for you as well. If you are really close it is like smoking yourself.

Forgot to add, 2 liters/hr oxygen for about six weeks. And I live with two other heavy smokers but they didn't bother me except for the repulsive stench.
