Smoker4Life

I feel I will always be a smoker.  Just not strong enough to say no.
I never knew how addicted I was until I had no cigarretts and no one would let me borrow the money to get any.  I got so low I was picking up butts and crying, knowing I should not put my lips on that butt.  After that I have not attempted to quit.  I dont ever want myself in that predictament again.

I always have bad deams so I can't tell. The only thing I can tell you for sure is that it works for me with a minimum of side effects.

I never experienced the bad dreams but then again, I rarely remember my dreams anymore : ) The only negative was a queasy stomach at times. I tried to cut out foods that may aggravate it; i.e. beans and beans and did I mention beans : )
Good luck and keep us posted.

Chantix is sounding greater and greater.  Has anyone had any bad dreams from Chantix?  We did have one patient quit taking them.  He said his nightmares where just to vivid.

I was like you, addicted to the max and would cage butts too. I knew I had an addictive personality because of a past drug problem and tried but failed quitting smoking using patches or zyban. I then tried chantix and been stopped since nov. It is a miracle drug but I have to give myself some credit too. I still take one pill a day.

the cost is steep (about $120.) but it is well worth it : ) I can't tell you what a change it has made in my life and my friends and family can vouch for that. Please try to prepare yourself by visiting whyquit.com and read their educational library. The "motivation" section is heartbreaking but if you can handle it, read that also.
BTW, I know anout a dozen people who tried Chantix and all of them succeeded in their quit. Some have had side effects but your physician will let you know about them.

Keep us posted and good luck : )

I have heard a few successful stories on Chantix now.  I work in a doctors office.  As soon as I can get some health insurance I am going to see about trying this.

that was me 4 months and 1 week ago! I was hooked and no one could reason with me and I didn't want to quit, or so I thought. I was absolutely to weak to do it and then I heard about Chantix. (read my post titled "everyone") My quit happened because I doubted that there was anything on the market that could help me and here was something that said they were 44% successful. I thought for sure that I was in that 56% that couldn't and so I took them. The first month I smoked when I wanted to. Toward the end of the month I found that I had cut back to about 5-7 smokes a day and that was without trying! The first week of my second month I really began believing that I could do it and I actually tested myself......waiting as long as I could for that first smoke of the day and believe me, the day before my quit I had waited about 6 hours for that first smoke and knew that I could and would do it!
I smoked for 38 years and never ever quit before this. I smoked through 2 pregnancies and I smoked through every one of my illnesses.......thyroidectomy.....drain in my neck with a smoke hanging out of my mouth and never thought for a moment that it was disgusting or perverse!
If I can do it, anyone can do it! The hardest part was the first 3 days and in retrospect, it wasn't to bad (easier then an ear infection or toothache.)
What helped me through the first 3 days of my quit was whyquit.com and this forum even though I didn't post my first "help" until 4 weeks quit.
If you have stumbled onto the forum then you have taken the first step, even if you haven't realized it yet : )
You can do it and we will help you through it, if you want it.
