Hi:  Just wanted to mention that its possible that u can be allergic to the cigarette smoke now.  I noticed that when I was in a smaller room in the house for an hour or so, that I would start getting stuffed up. When I left the room and went into a bigger area it all cleared up.  Thats how I finally figured out what it was from.

I stopped smoking on July 7, 2009, so tomorrow I will be at the one month mark.  I did it with the nicotine patches and am on the final step.  They have 21mg, 14mg, and 7, and im now on the 7.  Unfortunately yesterday, my hubby and I were out building a shed over the weekend and it was sooooo hot that the darn patch kept coming off my arm and I had to replace it twice.

I actually had one of them fly down the driveway  LOL.  I couldnt get anymore patches till today, and I certainly was not ready to be without, so of course I fell off the wagon today (only), and I have a new box now, all ready for the morning.  I mentioned it to the drugstore about them falling off, and was told that the whole lot of them might have been defective, that it probably wasnt from being outside in the heat.

By the way.......the cigs tasted sooooo bad, I certainly know now that quitting was the best thing I have ever done, and will be right back on track in the morning.

Maybe it was God's way of showing me today that .......see, u really weren't missing a thing!!!   The only reason I had those few smokes was to get me past the withdrawal.  I wont be without any more patches, thats for sure.!!!!!!  I felt so much better too.  More energy, food tastes great, I could breathe better, and my husband is now talking about quitting in the fall.  Keep your fingers crossed, I hope he does.

YAY! What better way to celebrate then a trip to Hawaii! Make sure you hold him to it, after all, you deserve it : )
As for incentive, just breathing is incentive enough for me : )

That's wonderful..
back when I first talked about quitting.. the hubby said we'd take a trip to hawaii... 2 years and 3 months to go! lol! (not that I need that much of an incentive to keep it up..)

It's been almost a full year since I posted that response and I am still smoke free : )

I'm going to flash my meter:

Kathyjo.. well said and well done!
Empathy.. Keep up the good work.. take it one day at a time.. and anytime you feel tempted... think of all the reasons why not.. I guarantee if you do a mental substitution of a tar filled lung or something in the place of a cigarette... you'll think twice about it..
I was fortunate enough to quit cold turkey but if you need something to help you break the habit.. go for it! Don't be afraid to talk to someone as well.. or ask someone to be an annoying nag to be a constant reminder...  good luck! <3

Congrats on day 16!
I am always amazed by my ability to hang on.....I am also very proud. To date, most of my accomplishments don't amount to anything nearly as great as this one : )
What's even more amazing is that by tomorrow morning I will reach the 7,000 cigarettes not smoked mark! I can't even envision smoking all of them!
Let's pray for an end to this nasty habit : )

I agree.  Everyone has a way and talking about it is helpful.  It makes us not feel so alone.  No matter what helps each of us we have a common problem and I think talking about it helps all of us who come here.  I am happy to be going to bed now so I can wake up to day 17:)  It just amazes me honestly are you still amazed by your accomplishment?

you are right and for those who have the same opinion as you.......it makes them feel like they are not alone.
I wanted to know why I smoked and why it was so difficult to quit and I believe I got all the answers from whyquit.
I think that the bottom line has to be talking about it and using this forum to get support and others opinions : )

I don't disagree with anyone doing anything that helps them.
I know these sites work really well for many people they just didn't help me.  That kind of stuff just doesn't motivate me and I don't identify with it.  The only reason I have stated that here is becuase people always say go to those sites and you don't hear much about the people who are like me and don't benefit from it.  I do not respond to it I don't know why I just don't.  I felt hopeless when I didn't because that is always what people tell you to do, "go to whyquit.com etc." Since all people are different I just state how it is for me so that people who may have trouble like I did might try another way if they need to.  That's my point I don't disagree I just needed a different way.

Chantix worked wonders for me and I am grateful that it came out when it did : )
I wasn't one of those who quit right away, but after a month and 2 weeks of Chantix, I was finally ready to stop completely.
Melody, don't stop taking the Chantix until you know you are ready. I know that mcclos10/ empathy323 will disagree with me, but what really worked wonders for me was to read the articles (Joel's Library-Education) at whyquit.com. I tried to stay away from the Motivation section, as it is truly disturbing, but in reality, this is what we can expect if we continue to smoke.
Another website, and this is quite inovative, is becomeanex.org  It focuses on relearning our lives without the smokes. Driving, after meals, waking up, that morning cup of coffee : )  Try it, you never know : )
Hang in there and remember that we are here for support.

Just go for it and good luck today you can do it.  I am on Chantix too and played games with it the first few months like you are smoking here and there.  Now I am on Day 16 smoke free and it's a great feeling!!  This is the longest I have gone since I started smoking 21 years ago at age 15.  Good luck you can do it!!!

(btw it's mcclos10 for those of you who new me from that name I had to change my user name)

mcclos10 is right......just stop altogether and get it over and done with. There is no such thing as "cutting back" and after 38 years of smoking, I have played that same game and I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've increased the amount of smokes because I was "stressed" or "depressed." I was full of excuses but eventually learned that the only way to quit is to quit completely.
If you can figure out why you feel you need those 2 smokes a day, then you will be able to truly begin your quit.
As for feeling crappy......oh, 4 months of it when I first stopped.....3 sinus infections, bronchitis and pleurisy.....I kept thinking that if I started again I might feel better. Now, looking back on those first few months, I can honestly say that with the support of my friends, family and this forum, there was nothing that could have made me begin again.
There are times when I have an urge but I know, if I slip once, I'm a goner.....so I will never, ever smoke again and that is my advice to you too.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. You will feel better soon : )

It is very common. I would stop smoking completely so you can get past that phase quicker.  Having 2 a day is prolonging it.  Good luck I am on day 15!!
