My body went numb from about mid-chest down.

I'm a 53 y/o white male. I've had a pretty active life, sports, military, and a lot of trauma to my body. On October 7, 2017, I fell backwards off of a flatbed tractor trailer and landed with my left arm underneath my back and broke my right wrist. On January 10, 2018 my left knee gave out and I fell down about 5 steps and into a wall. When I hit the wall, my left wrist broke and my hip hit the floor. I had severe pain in my left hip and could barely walk for two weeks. After the pain subsided, my wife noticed I had problems walking and was dragging my feet. A few days later I had a severe coughing spell at night, The next morning, my body was numb from about mid-chest down. It felt like I had an ace wrap around my chest and around both legs right below my knees. It felt like when your foot goes asleep except from mid-waist down. I went to the VA Emergency Room and they admitted me for test. They did x-rays, a CT scan on my head, and an MRI of my neck, upper back, and lower back. As soon as the Neurologist looked at the MRI of my neck, I was transferred to another hospital that could handle the surgery.  I have previously had the C4, C5, and C6 vertebrae in my neck fused and the Neurologist said that the C-3, C-7, and C-8 vertebrae were pinching my spinal cord.  Needless to say, all vertebrae from C-3 through C-8 have now been fused. It has been three weeks since the surgery and the feeling in my chest has returned. However, I still feel numb from my waist down and still have the feeling like there is an ace wrap around my knees. The Neurologist said it could take a few weeks for the feeling to come back but that he also observed some crowding of several vertebrae in my back. Sorry, he didn't advise which vertebrae were crowded. Do you think I will have to have surgery on my back also, or could it just be taking a long time to get feeling back? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
