Sorry about your husband. Same thing happened to my dad. For 10 years he was left total care. He couldnt eat orally, read, write, walk or talk. He was totally conscious and knew his family, but the stroke caused some brain damage. THis was a man who just before the bleed was a jogger, salad eater, vitamin taker, trim, took own bp, etc... walked out the door to go to the library, and fell in the parking lot. You just never know!! It was so hard on our family, especially my mom.
My husband had a bleed. It was due to uncontrolled high blood pressure. He had been taking pills for years but he never knew what his numbers were. Even when the doctors would tell him he needs to get his pressure under control he would say ok and never do anything to get it lower. He never checked his pressure outside of the doctors office and he never knew what the numbers meant. He was a stroke in the making.
Blood pressure will go up after exercise or sex and as long as it doesn't stay high it should be ok. Even though it was still high 1/2 hour later, I don't think that's a reason for panic. If it's staying at that level I'd be concerned.
Did your husband have a bleed or was it the more common clot (ischemic) type?
With a blood pressure that high he really needs to go to the ER. My husbands stroke began with an intense headache. I regret every minute that I didn't get him to the hospital until 4 hours later. If hs BP is still high please get him to the ER.
