NO! NO! NO! My stroke was 7 years ago and I improved most in year 5 before other physical ailments became a problem. Will I ever be HEALED, doubt it but I definitely improve a little every day. I'm better now, stronger than I was last month. I'm still having great problems with my balance and fine motor skills but I make progress each day.
Again, NO! Read "A Stroke of Insight" about a woman who had a major intense stroke, but chronicles her recovery over at least 7 years from what I recall.
You make the most progress after 6 months to a year, but there are definately slower improvements after that.
Hi there. Stroke rehabilitation should begin as soon after a stroke, the priority being stbilising medical condition and controlling life-threatening ones. it may include therapy for communication disorders helping you regain lost abilities to speak, write and comprehend. Exercises to improve motor skills, mobility training to use walker or canes, improve range of motion therapy includes exercises to help lessen spasticity, psychological evaluation and constraint induced therapy. This means restricting the use of an unaffected limb when you practice to use the affected limbs to indirectly improve its function. The duration of rehabilitation depends on severity of your stroke and related complications so it cannot be generalized. You will need the monitored services of a neurologist long term and the rehabilitation plan remodeled depending on the recovery. Your doctor will guide you aptly. Hope this helps. Take care.
