thank you very much for your advice, i have gone and got myself checked out and they said i was all clear, it was just a missed month to change the date of my period, i've just reacently had my period and turned out that all it was, was the changing of seasons (as my doctor told me) i've also checked my history and both sides of my family have had light periods that change dates every so often which i pressume happened to me. thank you very much for your help you have put my mind at ease. also i think that it was partly stress as im a ballerina and have to prepare for a recital which if i pass i'll be able to perfom for the queen! however back into subject, your help was very useful. again thank you xxx

Hi!
After the start of periods, it may take up to 3 years for a girl to get a very regular cycle. Also the routine the girl maintains during this time, her diet and family history of settling into a regular cycle of periods plays an important role. Stress both physical and mental, irregular sleeping hours and diet poor in nutrition can all cause the periods to become irregular in a girl who started her periods less than 3 years ago. Try to regularize your routine and see. Eat a balanced diet and do something like yoga or meditation or listen to music to distress yourself.
However you can consult a gynecologist about this. Polycystic disease of the ovary, low iron, hypothyroidism and hormone imbalance (which can happen due to reasons other than mentioned above) can all cause the periods to become irregular. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
