Anxiety or Depression

Hi Im Joe and im 14 years old. Sometimes i think of crazy things and it feel like im going to lose my mind. I get them out of no where. My mom thinks its because of puberty and chemical imbalance in my brain. I dont really know what it is, now i dont do things i like to do. i cant go to the movies without feeling all scared and i sometimes feel like im about to die, my breath shortens, i feel light headed, i get scared. My Mom says its normal , but i feel like im the only one with this problem. :'(

Hello Joe -

There ARE a lot of issues that come with puberty, certainly, but the things you have explained in your post sound more like depression and anxiety than hormonal disorder. You are not alone, that's for sure. There are many, many of us here at medhelp that have experienced the shortness of breath, fear, loss of interest in things we formerly enjoyed. Often disorders aren't just one thing or the other. They can be a combination of things - for instance, I am bipolar with anxiety disorder. You may have a similiar problem but first you need to get your mother to listen to you. You need to make it clear to her that you want/need to see your family doctor because there IS something wrong. Perhaps if you share the some of the things that go through your head with her, she may take you more seriously. It may be difficult for you to share but sometimes it's the only way to get people to hear you! Just make certain that you get to see the doctor and see how it goes from there! I wish you well, take care ...
