All the signs are there, but its still not proven.....

I have a strong feeling i have depression, and have most of the symptoms:
iscolate myself in my room
Feel upset or scared most of the time
I SLEEP ALOT!!
Feel dumb and worthless
cant concentrate in school and have many suicidal thoughts.
But im scared to go for a test, and what if it turns out that i dont have it? Is there a good chance i have depression?? If you think i do, how and where do i start to get help??

Hey honey, 20%, 1 in 5 suffer from teen depression. It is not a life sentence, it can be easily treated. You need to grow a pair and tell your parents, and ask for an appointment with your health care provider. Don't assume that your parent's will not be supportive, give them more credit than that. You need to deal with this asap, so you can get back to your studies, right?

Thats the other problem. I want to be the perfect girl for everyone. One who works hard and is successful. (as you can see i am a perfectionist, and its affecting me in school too). Im infact probably the biggest perfectionist you will ever meet or talk to. How can i face myself. Im so scared that my perfectionism wont go away, and then if i do have depression, it will make me feel worse. I Am behind in school, and my life revolves around school ( i know that is something that you probably didnt expect from a 13 year old girl, but well its true). im so scared of  failing in life. its probably what is causing the depression. I work my butt off trying to be the best out of my class, then i end up falling behind again, because everything has to be perfect! Im up till like 11-12midnight finishing homework. then i go to school in the morning feeling fatigued and like im going to fall asleep. And why else would i do things so slow, other then i have depression.
im sorry i am probably confusing you all, but i really do need help with this.

Thanks everyone. I will give it ago. But the only thing is im scared to tell my mum. She thinks im just a normal girl, with no problems. And then she might ask me why i think i have depression, but i cant open up to her. Im not so close to my mum, talking heart-to-heart talk i mean. Also i see a counsellor at my school, but we havent discussed seeking help for the depression. I only told her that i suspect that i might have it. she hasnt said anything else about it. I feel uncomfortable telling my mum, and my family. they will probably think i am crazy or am overreacting. And your all right i will seek help, but im not sure if it is possible to get a depression diagnosis (if i do have it) without telling my mum. Is it? thats my main problem. Im scared to open up.
Thanks everyone.

You are depressed.  See a psychologist, or go to your county mental health department or even the counseling department at your school (they can refer you).  The most important thing is that you seek help immediately.  Most depression is easily treated, but it seldom goes away all by itself - and it can kill you.  Even your personal doctor can help - just see somebody soon.

If you even suspect being depressed, you most likely are.  It sounds like it to me.  Go get help!  If you have Kaiser, they have a mental health department and you can call and get in.  If you're with another provider, I'd imagine you can call and ask where you can be seen in your area for mental health care or you can call your general health care physician and ask if he or she knows of a good mental health facility where you can see a psychiatrist and therapist for help.  You can also try going to NAMI.org and seeing if there's any helpful things there.

Good luck!
