as little as possible. If I remember correctly my ob said a cup of coffee and no more every other day. So the equivalent of a cup of coffee. I just switched from regular tea to decaf and green tea and after the pregnancy I switched back.
so caffeine should be totally avoided? or can you have a small amount a day? like a cup of tea?
The sooner you get to the doctor the better. S/he can give you an entire list of foods, drinks and medications to stay away from. There are a lot of No,No's for pregnant women. Like Clysta said caffeine is a big one, nicotine, alcohol, shell fish (they're bottom feeders and eat the poo, literally, of the ocean and its bad for the baby, fish has tons of mercury which is bad for the baby, deli meats, under cooked/raw meats, unpasteurized foods (mainly milk, cheeses, apple cider and other things of that nature). anything with ancetophmine (my spelling is way off i know), tylonol is pretty much all you can really take.
The sooner you start pre natals the better as well. They are essential for the baby as s/he grows.
Chocolate is a big one that has caffeine. Some medicines also contain caffeine, and those should also be avoided.
i didn't realise it was in food also. thanks
Under 300mg of caffeine a day, or none if possible. Remember caffeine is in foods as well, so that has to be taken into account.
thankyou and is it true you have to ut down on caffeine? i read somewhere that you have to cut down to four cups of tea a day?
Possibly, but not always. If you think you may be pregnant, take a home pregnancy test. Also make sure you are eating a healthy diet, drinking enough water, avoiding alcohol, cigarettes, any other drugs, and so on.
