Though I say that I won't watch the show, I lied, Sorry, but sometimes the show has great topics. But the whole thyroid thing still makes me wanna puke. And I do like Ellen better. I do hope Oprah finds what she is looking for and comes back to reality. Maybe her thyroid problem was not so bad after all.
Stop watching Oprah......we all know that it's all about the ratings. I think that maybe she never had a thyroid problem, but it's a great place for her to put the blame. Plus I'm sorry, but she is way heavier than what she tells her viewers. I know because she looks about 75 lbs. heavier than me. I use to watch her, but she's not what she use to be. I just wish I had the money for a chef and a trainer. It's sad because it hurts all of those that have serious thyroid problems. She won't committ herself to us because she knows that she can't fool the real Mccoys. Our community is stronger and much more educated when it comes to our thyroid. I kind of lost interest when I saw Tom Crews jumping on Oprahs couch like a complete idiot. Also not to thrilled with Tom anymore. Yeah, I like to see Oprah balance our thyroid cancer and hashimotos. She has no idea. She's big money and big ratings, that's all she is, and it worked. She got your attention, accept she never knew how much she would upset people. I think we should boycott the show. I use to love and respect her, now I'm just turned off. I'm never watching again. I like to watch Ellen, she's funny....makes me laugh. Oprah makes me puke.
I gained 16 kilograms with hyperthyroidism and Graves prior to RAI 7 months ago and I havent gained any since RAI and being on Thyroxin.
The weight gain was from my levels being out of whack....not any medication.
I had a history prior to dx with Graves where I would gain 5 kgs in one week yet at other times it would take me 2 years to gain 5 kgs and I was on no meds then.
I dont believe it is the meds, I believe its the thyroid levels and the bodies metabolism.
I had massive bloating BEFORE RAI or before being put on thyroxin.
I remember reading a few years back that Oprah went through stages of 'binge eating' due to her relationship with her boyfriend falling apart and gaining heaps of weight too.
BB8911: Tee! Hee! Good theory; I like the way you think. Seriously though, no one knows just what’s going on in Oprah’s life. If she was messing around like that, I say, it’s good that she’s moved on. But if she does truly have this disease and needs meds I hope whatever it is in the universe that guides her, does.

I agree with cbread: “While I would like to see more information made public about thyroid health, perhaps Oprah isn't our gal.” I never really thought she was except on the marketing theory that if you plant any word, in whatever context, it’ll stick around - her mentioning of the word “thyroid” might just do that.
• Happy Thyroid Awareness Month •
Since Oprah won't tell us what exactly is causing her thyroid problem, we are all assuming she is hypo. So she was probably told her thyroid was under-active. She may have falsy concluded that by stimulating her thyroid, she would raise her metabolism and her weight would be easy to control. Thus, she got sloppy with her food habits. But, since synthroid and all its cousins are a"sodium" it causes bloating, water retention, just like salt. So I believe it is possible to gain weight on these meds, even if most of it is water. If she went off, she would lose the water weight and think she is cured. She is looking for instant answers to a lifelong ailment. Thyroid is the only thing she needs to balance... she just didn't give it enough time.
Sorry to hear Stella but you got the same reaction I got last year.....zilch.
Oprah isnt too popular in Australia as far as I know...lets put it this way, people would rather be reading the posts here than watching her show lol.
So what does that tell you (wink )
And if she IS cured then I am Madonna :) lol
(Gawd I wish!)
