I used to not have a weight issue and then over the past few years it seems to have just packed on. I would like to lose 70 lbs and be back to 120 lbs like I was when I first got married. I believe that the thyroid issues are to blame because I was very active and stayed in shape, but now I don't have the energy to go to work much less run or workout. My husband says it doesn't bother him, but lets face it, even if it did he wouldnt tell me. So I continue to be depressed about my weight and my disease. So this is my take on it, if people don't like the way I look, then they can look the other way. Hope everyone has a great FOURTH!
Oh, I forgot to add...even after losing the 25 last summer, I need to lose about 20 more. They are stubbornly hanging on.
I lost 25lbs last summer without trying (first and only time in my life). Looking back, I think it was the hyper before the hypo. I gained about 7 back in Feb. after my dad died and have been stuck ever since. I was finally diagnosed in March and started meds in April.
Hi. Well I've always ate very healthy. I snack a lot on veggies or an orange. Everyone tells me I eat healthier than anyone they have ever know. So why is my body so malnourished? I guess it's been the thyroid. I've been working out on a treadmill since January and have gained 17 pounds. GRRRRR.
Hoping to loose 40 pounds. I would be happy if I could just maintain 3 pounds off in a month at this point.
I tried taking phentermine for 6 months. I lost 50 pounds. Ya right? WRONG! Within 8 months I gained back ~45 of them. Yuk It seems like no matter what, they just keep creeping up. Summer is here though so I'm hoping that the work it brings will melt some of this fat away. Take care.

P. S. I wasn't sure about MKacza's answer so I looked it up. LOL Pasted below:
BLOOD TESTING FOR THYROID / METABOLISM LEVELS INCLUDES:
Measuring the level of hormone secreted by the pituitary to stimulate the thyroid gland (TSH) , and measure of free thyroxin (thyroid hormone) and protein bound thyroxin in the blood.
BLOOD TESTING FOR THYROID / METABOLISM LEVELS WILL TELL YOU:
This test will measure the current functioning of both the pituitary gland and the thyroid gland and will identify whether the thyroid gland is producing too much or too little hormone.
An under-active thyroid creates a slow metabolism creating weight gain or fatigue and depression. An overactive thyroid speeds metabolism creating weight loss or muscle fatigue.

MKlacza, no offense taken....
Someone made a point about metabolism. I have always been told that my metabolism will slow down when i hit 40.....How can you tell if you do have a fast metabolism or not, is there a blood test that can be run? Just curious...
OK OK .................I reset the tracker ........... with a 6mos goal.
AND set it so you can see it .....

I am 40 pounds over weight. Years of weight struggle. I am mildly hypo and apparently have been for a long long time. I gained my weight 20 pound before I got pregnant with my son (when I 1st started seeing the doctors) and then again 20 pounds after breastfeeding. And have stayed for about 4 years only minor ups and downs. Problem is that I would go though sperts of feeling good and feeling bad. When I felt good I exercised but I never lost anything significant. Now I'm pregnant again, just started on 75 mg of Synthroid. I'm hoping that the med will level the ups and downs. Anyway, I can't join in on the weight loss mission yet but I'll be cheering for you all.
I gained about 25 lbs over two years-a mixtured of hypo and not making good food choices over eating due to being tired. I actually have lost about 8 pounds over the last 3 weeks! Seem I may have my meds at the right level-more energy and not craving sugar as much. Hopefully I am on the mend!
peek, I loved that. what a comeback !!
OHHHHHHHH...EWWWWWW. I have 40 lbs to lose. Here is my story(get out the tissues as I am in need of some sympathy) Weight in March 06 140 lbs..Gave birth in December 06 . On 12/31/06, the day my baby was born, I weighed 169. Jan/feb/2007 weighed in at 155. Diagnosed with Post partum Hypothyroidism in May of 2007 weighed 184. An almost 30 lb gain in a 3 month period. I struggle daily.
I am on no anti-depressants etc. Only Synthroid since May of 2007 and now on my 5 or 6 day of Armour. I lost track already.
I have always been a "healthy" eater with the occasional dessert. 5'9'' tall and loved to bike ride/walk before this whole hypo came into my life. I just don't have the energy.
I thought thyroid issues slowed your metabolism.... Bottom line, I am hoping to lose 40 lbs and have been actively trying for 12 months now.
Hahahhahaha! I'm responsible, eh?
My wt. has been 100% constant since my partial thyroidectomy and Synthroid adventure. Actually I lost a few after the surgery, but that was from stress and it came right back to the exact am't.
I am more hyper vs. hypo by way of meds. Loss of appetite for me, actually.
So no weight gain here from meds, hyper or hypo or surgery or stress....
But this is not the case for many on the community by a long shot.
So there are many avenues for many people .... and just as many avenues of thought on the subject which we are openly exploring today ...

Anyways... my weight is slowly lifting.. I think I am starting to regulate.. Starting is the key word here. I had a baby in Nov 07.. That weight was 140 after having her.. right before my surgery in March I was at 135.. One month ago 138 and now 133
Totie- I disagree with your comment.. no offense.. I take nothing but my Armour and have put on 7 lbs since Mar 08 from TT. I am seeing the gut go down because I think the Armour is starting to slowly regulate itself within my body!! I just started to see this within the last 2 weeks. And when my period is here, I gain a few pounds instantly!! I walk everyday with two children and weight lift.. So, I think that after being thyroidless...yes, we are always going to be within the hypo stage, but I think that regulating our meds and when our bodies stop screaming from the shock that their in, the weight might start to lift.
right now, weight is not an issue for me. Getting better is. I realize when you feel good you worry about things like that. At least I did. But right now, just give me a good nights sleep!
And, in my case ...................getting older [ shhhhh did I say that? no age revealed here but trust me, I do qualify } .... hee hee hee~!
I guess with no thyroid i am technically considered hypo, at least that is what my doctor once told me.
I have never had problems with the weight gain. I know a lot have, but i think a lot has to do with the anti depressants they take, OR any other medication that would have a "gain weight' side effect. (for those that take them).
I have lost 25 lbs since Jan., but i think it is due to other issues.
I am VERY annoyed at gaining 12 lbs since April 3. Considering I still have no real thyroid diagnosis (but have a new diagnosis for neck swelling - Carotidynia) I guess I can't be worried about the weight at the moment. It is frustrating to have lost about 13 lbs in January and Feburary just to have gained it back between April and May!
