yea -
the book looks pretty good so hepefully now I have a tool for dealing with the pain.
Scalenes - hard to do, must use hands.
Rhomboids and shoulder blades- tennis ball and thera cane.
I got a tennis ball and a little racquet ball works good too. yeah my lowerback always locks up and I the trigger point is the glute somewhere.
Neck is mainly the upper trap, scalenes and pretty much all muscles around there.
Rhomboids seem to be an issue, and I think there is a refered pain from there as well.
Recently too pain around the shoulder blades.
I think those are the main areas.
Thats the book. Takes a while to figure out that cane, being creative helps. You'll need a tennis ball too, and possibly one of those soft baseballs (kids baseball?) - its between a regular baseball (to hard) and a tennis ball to use on glutes and thighs (specifically the IT band, Iliotibial band) - sides of legs. I guarantee your glutes / hips / thighs are super tight with small knots that creates back pain and vise versa. You will notice once you start rolling on them and push out the lactic acid in 20 seconds of applied pressure. You've seen the foam rollers, right? There good for maintainance, but they do not pin point a problem area - to big for that.
Remember magnesium at night.
Thanks LazyMoose,
gosh, I took a quarter pill(800mg) of Skelaxin and it was a yummy feeling and that's what scared me. I felt really goooooood. But yeah the other day I could not sleep at all cause I had really really strong muscle spasm/twitch. Not sure what the difference is since all this is new happenings. But yeah I might do a quarter skelaxin once or twice a week here and there to help me sleep, I deserve a break I think. hehe.
ordered a theracane from amazon.com. :) as well as this book? http://www.amazon.com/Trigger-Point-Therapy-Workbook-Self-Treatment/dp/1572243759/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1291943457&sr=8-3
I am really hopeful that the chiropractor didn't mess me up and that this is all thyroid related.
I am very grateful for all the support from everyone.
I can see why you dont want Cymbalta - it does mess with the nuero transmitters - but so does low thyroid.
Skelaxin seems to be one of the best muscle relaxants without making one drowsy like Flexerill does. It is good for occasional muscle flareups - I would not be afraid of Skelaxin when you really need it. It can be weened off. If you dont need the full strength, cut the pills in half.
It will take months for muscle pain to subside in people that have it bad like you do. The time frame also depends on how low your thyroid levels were, you weren't that low so it could have been worse. First two months you might not notice much pain relief from thyroid med since your muscles actually need time to to repair.
The best thing you can do to speed up muscle recovery is the myfascial muscle release - the book we discussed in the past. It gets that lactic acid out which is causing the pain and will let thyroid hormone and nutrients get into muscle tissue much faster so the ATP process can start working again!. Once again, a typical medical doctor will not know much about this topic, since is not a drug.
yeah, am learning that. patience. ugh. ;)
It does take a while for the med to take effect, so every tiny step puts you that much closer to feeling better.
Being mentally clearer, is an awesome step forward.
Getting well takes patience, patience, then more patience; and when you run out of patience, you'll need to summon more!! There really is a light at the end of the tunnel. :-)
Thanks Barb.
There are times when I do not see a way out :(
But I do feel mentally clearer.
Try to give the levo time to work before starting on more drugs, if you can. Pain is very common with hypothyroidism and it's possible that once you've been on the med long enough for it to work, your pain will lessen.
Wishing you luck
