**ATTENTION ALL DESICCATED THYROID PATIENTS** stock up on your medication.
If you take natural desiccated thyroid medication Naturethroid - you may want to call your doctor and push for a 3 month supply instead of getting it month to month right now.
I had a feeling things would start to get tricky when most patients found Armour thyroid was a poor substitute since they reformulated the script. Many patients - as I am - made the switch to Natureroid after this reformulation b/c their hypothyroid symptoms returned with the new Armour.
Well........ as expected - due to the mass production now of Naturethroid at RLC labs there seems to be a shortage of meds and grains being distributed. YES I was lazy and kept getting my script month to month too - I could kick myself for that decision I made....
I just called my doctor and will be picking up at least a 3 month supply of my dosages. I get my script directly from her so I hope I will not have issues getting it. If you chose to go this route and purchase your Naturethroid in big supply - you will need to freeze your additional medication until it is time to use.
*** Remember **** if you can't get the grains you normally use ( I use 2 grain tablets) getting other grains must be cut to fit your needs. Or you may need to take more - if your grains are smaller than you normally use.
You may find that your insurance ( if it's covered) will not pay to get the script purchased (long term) at a pharmacy.
You may be forced to go the mail order route - but if your with Merek Medco that may not be an option any longer either. My medication is not covered - I do have Medco as my provider - so I am forced to pay cash for my medication regardless. Also with mail order - time to reorder right now is not on your side.
If you are in a situation as I am - and have no thyroid and take Naturethroid - you should do your homework on making sure you have enough meds to get you through this shortage.
I am still having trouble with my personal message system here at Med Help. I will be in touch with Laura1967 today so she can be my backup on messaging if you need to do this. PM her if you need to get a hold of me right now.
Do not go into freak mode on this if you are finding it tough to get your medication. I will be in touch with RLC today and with the help of my doctor we will get more answers soon on what's going on and how long this may be.
My advise here - IF you fiind you are not able to get the right medication - you can call your doctor and talk about T4 and T3 synthetic meds for a while until this shortage is over. If you are taking the combo formula of desiccated porcine medication - you may find - if you can't get your medication that using Cytomel - in addition to Synthroid could get your through this hump. Again if cost is an issue - this route could be something too. You can also discuss the possiblity of using Thyroid-S and synthetic Thyrolar.
Either way - you may want to consider a quick call to your doctor today or maybe a visit just to discuss these issues and remain well balanced with your medication choices.
Again - remember to "SEEK - SEARCH and SUPRISE yourself. Stay up on your health situation with keeping you balanced -
the more you know....... the more informed... the better you will be.

Ive called all over and cant find who does, where do yal get yours?
Target said they would order for me once the backorder lifts (Nature-throid on backorder because of Armour). but who carries it ?

Thanks for the info! I'm the one who asked for 8 months if I could try Armour and did get my endo to agree. I have been afraid to ask him to switch me to Nature throid because it took me so long to get Armour! But I lucked out when I went to get my Armour filled the Pharmacy was out and asked if I would like Nature throid, I said yes that would be great! They called the Endos office and he gave the OK! My insurance did cover it I paid $4.53 not bad. I will be asking for a 3 month supply next visit. Thanks again!

By the way......I made the switch from Armour to Synthroid with Cytomel and I am doing great. So, don't freak out and get stressed.....there are other options that work.
Remember that stress will throw your thyroid off!
