Anger issues with Graves

Does anyone with graves suffer from anger issues?  I get so mad at everything nowadays and I settle down after awhile but it's actualy frightening how angry I can get over little things. It is a side effect of being hyper/agitated or am I just getting old and crotchety?  Does anyone have tips on how to manage it?

LOL

Graves - RAI - hypothyroid............ I can be a walking time bomb if I let myself get there.

Not a healthy way to be though - so I prefer to just take things a bit slower than I am used to.

I found a good walk helps me settle down.

I've walk a marathon this week !!

I have seen the term "graves rage" referred to many times over the past couple of years to refer to what you seem to be describing.  So, yes, your Graves can be causing your anger issues.  I am not sure I have ever seen a doctor use the term, but have seen it used in many posts by  community members.

I never had anger issues, but I cried at the drop of a hat and couldn't stop when I was hyper from Graves, and even for a while after I started on anti-thyroid meds.  Now that my thyroid is gone, I am doing much better emotionally.

What treatment are you on for Graves?  Hopefully you'll see less evidence of the angry times once you become less hyperactive.  I wish you the best.

Well I'm a newbie to being diagnosed hyper/graves and in between insurance and endo appointments but I can tell you what has helped me so far.

Now first off a lot of people here will probably agree that the first order of business is seeing a doctor/endo and getting proper treatment and diagnosis from them but - before I knew I had a thyroid problem my psychiatrist was helping me with my moods, (to his great credit he's the one who finally got to the bottom of things and said "hey, you should go see an endochronologist!").

So anyways he put me on clonazepam which is sort of like a light version of xanex, that made it so my panic attacks stopped and I could actually go out of the house. Then Gabapentin. That's the one that really stabilized my mood as far as anger/frustration/crazy issues go.

But again it's just a crutch until I get to real treatment as I hope you/we all do.
