Well, My endo called. Says I Have subclinincal hyper... won't medicate. Wants to retest in 4 months. UGH! My biggest complaint is the tachycardia. I am so frustrated, I don't know what to do. He told me that my thyroid is functioning normally because my T3 and T4 are in normal range. Hello??? then why is my TSh low and why do i have symptoms? I guess I should tell you I was diagnosed with hyper about 7 yrs ago, treated w tapazole for 1-1/2 years and went into remission, but I was treated by my PCP not this endo. Any advice you can give me I really appreciate! Thanks
You tested positive for TSI which is a graves disease marker, which is the cause of you being hyper. Have they put you on meds yet? The doc will most likely tell you taht you don't have graves b/c your TSI is only 49. The ref range is usually 0-124. This ref range is merely an indicator of where you are at in the disease process. Unfortunately many endo's and GP'S haven't received the memo--that any level of TSI indicates graves, as it is NOT found in anyone who doesn't have it(healthy). You will do fine once you are put on meds. Hopefully they won't overmedicate you and send you hypo. I've seen ppl start out on 30+ mg and end up hypo within a month. Your endo may suggest RAI, never do something drastic as your first line of defense. RESEARCH the effects of RAI. The majority of ppl with graves will experience remision, and if remmision isn't achieved, they usually take meds to stay symptom free. I've known ppl on ATD's(antithroid meds) as long as 20+ yrs and are doing just fine.
