I have a doctor who believes in Armour but not in Erfa. She claims all of her patients who have tried Erfa have been unhappy with it and wanted to go back to Armour. She told me to chew the pills up and I'd be fine.
That worked with the 30, 60, 90 and 120 mg pills, but not with the 240 mg pills. They turn into a woody pulp in my mouth and leave me seriously hypothyroid. So I don't know if I should try to get the pharmacy to order some Erfa instead next time I get a prescription for Armour? However, I am a bit wary of Erfa after reading quite a few negative reviews about it...it seems that sometimes it's no better than sugar pills.
I understand some take cellulase (like Candex) with Armour to help break down cellulose. Does that work, or would it be better to switch to an NDT drug not containing cellulose?
Also, is it true that Armour was reformulated a second time in 2010 and has not been as bad since? If that's indeed the case, my problem could be that I have Armour manufactured back in 2009. I don't know for how long it's good, but my bottles all have 03/2013 as date of expiry. Could they be from the original, bad (reformulated) batch manufactured in early 2009? It seems four years is an awfully long time for NDT drugs to stay good, but thyroxine pills are good for up to four years from the date of manufacture so I can not rule that out...
Some say that the lower strengths were reformulated but not the other ones. That could explain why I do better on 2x120 mg of Armour than on one pill of 240 mg...but it's really confusing! Why would Forest reformulate some strengths and not all?!
