Hi Yes sorry for the confusing issue.
When i asked the Oncologist why the bloods have ben coming back normal if the cancer has returnd, i was old "i must be complex"
He told me the Tg was only a guide.
But unfortunately i know we have a right to know the results of bloods etc. But we are never given a break down of what they are.
I too feel extremely let down with the care i have received as was not expecting the reoccurence of the Papp. I know it can come back but i thought going for regular bloods and checks that it could be picked up before we had any signs or symptoms of it's return.
I think we are too lax in the UK and probably put too much trust in the people who are supposed to be caring for us, but not sure what else we could do.
I had no idea of all the different bloods etc relating to thyroid issues there was as i have only ever had the TSH and T4 monitored and occassionally the thyroglobulin.
I have a list of questions i want to ask the Oncoligist when i see him after the RAI but doubt i will gt any answers.
I have found this site and all the information people can give invalueable. I have learned more from the likes of yourself than any health profesional.

My question was are the bloods fine for going for RAI as i had read somewhere on a post that they needed to be at a certain level before the treatment?

I had to go to the GP and ask him to do the Free T3 and Free T4 bloods this week as i have never had them done before as far as i am aware, i have only ever had T3 and T4 with TSH.

I was astounded that as yet the hospital have still not notified the GP that anything has come back.

I was going through your posting history and now see more information.

I saw in a recent posts you commented about thyrogen and you made comment about how you can stay on meds w/ thyrogen til the scan. That is not right. Thyrogen is a blocker used for symptoms while waiting for the body scan but you still need to be off meds and follow the LID. Thyrogen just makes the hypohe// easier to go through until the scan is done.

I see you were at a 0.01 TSH in December - was that on the extremely high dose of 275mcgs T4 meds?

You have been off of T4 now preparing for RAI again due the cancer reoccuring. BTW what are your Tgab reading now? Where are your cancer markers at>?

You commented on another thread after being off meds for nearly 5 weeks you felt a burst of energy and was spring cleaning.. now you are feeling the effects of hypo coming in right? - That can be associated with the high amount of meds possibly stored until you went off. You have the energy due to release I suppose, and not you're running dry... Something isn't right that you were on that high amount of T4 medication. I see you only had TSH and T4 tests done previously.. now you show FT4 and FT3 w/ TSH. weren't they measuring all 3 during this whole course prior to cancer coming back? If not, that is dangerous especially with your cancer history.

What does this mean as you say above = "Came off T3 on the 31/02/2010 ? "

T3? - meds? I don't see that anywhere in your posts.

It sounds like the cancer was undected based off the low TSH readings in the past. I hate to assume but if that is truly the case - that is shotty care for a thyroid cancer patients to stay in remission.

You have to have ranges on the blood labs.. they have to have them.

I don't think you received optimal care after your original TT 4 years ago for pap cancer. I do know how tough it is for the UK thyroid patient to be cared for correctly on many levels and thyroid cancer is also not examined entirely with right treatment.

Your definately showing signs off the TSH that you are climbing higher in hypothyroidism. - You also say your cancer has returned so the protacol for treatment would be to go through RAI again.

Sorry forgot to say during all my check ups etc over the past 4 yrs I have been told that all bloods are normal.
Even in Dec 09 i was told the bloods had come back normal, so not sure why the Cancer has been undetectable?

Ooops yes sorry, i had total TT 2006 for Papp had regular visits back to Oncologist for check ups, just found out that the Cancer has returned and poss entered lungs. All TSH TG results have been coming back normal, this second round was only pick up as i felt a lump in my neck. They have put the rad neck dissection on hold while i have high dose RAI
I only know that my TSH in Dec 09 was 0.01 and T4 was 46

Here in the uk we are not given ref ranges sorry

I asked when i had bloods on Tuesday for free T3 and free T4 as well as TSH this is all they gave to me, not sure what the ranges are. Sorry

kazzer - can you post more history on your issues. I do not know what's all going on with you.

Also post the reference ranges off those labs.

I'll look at your profile to see if I  can see any clues on your condition.
