Calcium Levels after TT

Had a TT 5+ weeks ago.  Was told my parathyroids were not touched and my calcium levels have been really good.  Dr had me take .25 mg of calcitriol daily for 4 weeks; just weaned down to .25mg every other day.   Taking 2000 mg of calcium a day plus whatever I get in my diet.  My most recent serum calcium test came in at .88 which my Dr says is below normal and he's concerned.  Is it usual for your parathyroids to stop working so long after surgery?   I thought issues like this became apparent sooner?    Thanks

My dr mentioned that even though, they are still there and had nothing wrong with them...they may get a bit irritated by the surgery and just sort of "be ticked off" so it may not hurt to take the extra calcium...when you take calcium, make sure you take vitamin d as well.  It makes the calcium work better.
