I meant to say thyroiditis.
My bad.
Once your thyroid is removed the antibody count usually drops, but the antibodies don't go away. You will always produce those antibodies, more often than not at a level far above lab limit.
But the level can drop by 50-90%, so that's a start.
I don't know the mechanism for triggering antibody production, or read anything on how they are aquired, other than the immune system produces them after going rogue.
Makes me wonder if you get them all at once, or if you get them one at a time.
The doctors never run all five tests at once. They run a TPOab, and maybe a TGab.
Or they run a TPOab and a TSI.
I was treated for a couple of years before an Endo ran all five tests at once and found I had three, not one.
In Kendell's case, I think he has thyrotoxicosis and Hashimoto's. A swollen angry gland.
I also have a TSH that indicates hyper but have tested positive for hashi antibodies. I've read that the beginning phase of Hashis is hyper and then you progress to hypo when your thyroid is destroyed.I am not on meds yet either as I am awaiting a May 15 endo follow up.It is very confusing and I feel horrible too. Keep your head up. This can't last forever!!!!!
My Dr. told me that I had the antibodies for Hashi and Graves. He says that it is possible. I've had my thyroid removed, so hopefully the antibodies are gone. Right?
I went from hypo (and a hasimotos diagnosis) in 2006 to hyper in 2007 until now...and got the graves diagnosis. So I guess you can switch but its rare. I had classic symptoms of hypo when I was hypo and then switched completely to hyper symptoms when my TSH dropped. Never experienced both at the same time.
Thanks for the info! I am not on any drugs as of yet... my doc is on vacation and I have my appt on May 12th for f/u. My TSH indicates hyper, but my symptoms and the fact that I have high thyroglobulin antibodies indicates Hashimoto's... it just gets confusing, especially when you feel horrible!
If you have TSI antibodies, you have Grave's. If you don't, you don't.
You can have hashimoto's and experience a hyper phase, for several different reasons.
Over medication.
Thyrotoxicosis.
A "hot" nodule. (May be wrong about this one.)
You can also experience hyper symptoms from the drugs, but the blood tests will not show you as hyper. That falls under the catagory of side effects, not over medication.
Your TSH of 0.10 says you are slightly hyper.
I am currently experiencing symptoms of hyper and have hyper labs. Awaiting antibody results. My Endo said I either have Hashitoxicosis (????) or Graves. Perhaps Hashi is both??? At least it's something for you to look at. Good luck!
