Oestrogen dominence can apparently be common with Hashi (autoimmune). My mum had it and once she started taking Progesterone (bioidentically correct from compounding chemist) cream, she started feeling dramatically better. No Pms, mood swings, depression, Painfully sore and swollen breasts etc Her low to non existent sex drive also went into overdrive.
I also have low Testosterone and DHEA for my age and I'm on these (only 3 days so far). I don't start Progesterone until day 13 of my cycle.(period) as it has to mimic you own body as it would make it normally.
I don't know about flaxseed, let me know how you go please! I know that hashi patients should stay away from gluten, dairy (I'm not too bad on lactose free products) and soy as they seem to inflame the autoimmune condition which led to the hashi as well as other hormone systems. The studies my doctor showed me, proved that diet plays an incredibly important part in healing the auto immune response and feeling healthy. Elaine Gottshall has written a book ( for Celiacs and Chrones etc) following one of these diets (they are similar). You can only buy this direct from America or on line at www.ccccibs.com as an Aussie woman has written a fantastic cookbook called 'Healing' Foods, following this diet and sells it with the other book in a book pack. I'm gluten free and carefull with dairy and after 3 months can feel a difference. I will be started this full diet in the next few weeks as I manage to get organised. (I also have 3 kids their medical issues and Husband etc to keep life busy.) will let you know how I go if you like!
Good luck and let me know how you go and what you find out.
Cheers Lisa
I'm interested in this as I just found out that I'm oestrogen dominant too. My doc has retested me just before my period to double check. Will know results in my next appointment.
Also, does anyone know if taking flaxseed oil makes your oestrogen dominant? I take flaxseed oil for omega 3, 6 as I'm scared of fish oil and mercury... but I just read that flaxseed oil has plant oestrogen and has oestrogen-like action, so there is a possible link to estrogen dominance.
Guess only one way to find out..will have to stop taking it and retest.
