Do you think I could be hyperthyroid?

Ok, I have been having problems off and on since I gave birth to my son a year ago. These problems include, fast heartrate, dizziness, chest pains, nausea, muscle weakness, shortness of breath over very litlle exertion, dry itchy skin, sometimes I feel like my heart is pounding and sometimes I get the shakes, I also sometimes feel like my hands are very hot. I went to the hospital about a month or 2 ago for the heart racing and shortness of breath. They put me on the heart monitor, did chest xray and ekg all of my tests were perfect except for my heart was beating fast in the 100 to 120 range while at rest. If I do anything physically exerting at all my heart will get as far 150, also my blood pressure was high as well. The doctor told me that all of my tests were normal except my thyroid was on the high end of normal. He then told me to see an endocrinologist. I don't know what the numbers were on the thyroid test but he said it was right on the line. My question is do you think I am hyperthyroid? Sorry this was so long!

Your freet4 and freet3 are both close to mid range so that's good. However your TSH is slightly over the new recommended range of 3.0. Most labs and doctors still use the old range as seen on your labs or even higher sometimes (like 5.0). I don't know if a year after birth it could be post pardum thyroiditus or not? Hormonally, you'd think that after a year things would start to calm down or level out some? You have alot of symptoms so I'd keep a close eye on your labs and recheck later with the addition of the antibody test I recommended. Thyroid issues can be difficult to get diagnosed, however, something is certainly causing you to exibit these symptoms. Good luck and keep us posted.

I went and picked up my results today from the hospital. I not sure I quite understand! It seems they might indicated I have an underactive thyroid, but why do I have a raceing heart rate and get short of breath??? Anyways here are my results:

TSH        4.22       Ranges: 0.270-4.200
Free T4   1.05                     0.90-1.90
T3, Free  3.08                    2.57-4.43

Could be Graves disease? You need to see and endo. ASAP and have an ultrasound and thyroid levels checked (freet3, freet4, TSH) and antibodiees for Graves (TSI) and Hashimotos disease (TPOab and Tgab) and your vitamin D level checked. Always get a copy of your labs. You can post your results and reference ranges here and we can give you our opinion if you'd like? God Bless!
