Drug Abuse and Thyroid Problems

I've been a heavy drinker and smoker most of my life (48 yrs) and abused alot of drugs -pot, lsd, mushrooms, speed, meth, COCAINE, and salvia divinorum. My thyroid antibodies are real high and I have nodules on my thyroid (ultra-sound test confirmation). My Doc has me scheduled to have a nuclear med test this week to see if it is cancer before he gives me thyroxine. I have all the classic symptoms of low thyroid. My question is: Is there any connection between drug abuse and thyroid problems? I got off of cocaine by using coca leaves and baking soda. It took alot of both to wean myself off.
Thanks
