The tumor deos not exibit widespread extrathyroid extension. Tumor Extends focally through the capsule of the thyroid too, but not extensivly into,, adjacent fatty tissues. It does not seem to invade muscle or other neck structures.

The left thyroidlesion exhibits some featuressuspicous but not definative for follicular varient of papillary carcimona. It does not exhibit the widespread classic architectural and cytologic features of papillary cancer seen in the right lobe. The possibility of foooicular adeoma cannot be excluded. However, in the view of hte amlignant process seen in the right lobe, complete removal of the left lobe is recomended.

SO LADIES AND GUYS waht do you think about this?? I will be watch for any responses. I do not get it~!

Since the tumor was not ecapsulated and they found some affected nodes you will definitely need to have RAI.  I had 2 of the 3 nodes come back positive for cancer and was told by both my surgeon and endo that it wouldn't affect my prognosis.  Utah is right, age has a ton to do with staging.  Under 45 and you're basically stage 1 unless it's spread distantly and even then you're still only stage 2.

The second surgery and the RAI should take care of this for you.  The whole thing is wildly inconvenient and the answers come slowly, but I agree that perception vs. reality is huge here.  The cure rate is extremely high and the recurrence rate is relatively low.  My MIL had breast cancer and they told her a 50% chance of recurrence!  Can you imagine hearing that after surgery, chemotherapy and radiation???

Hang in there lady :)

CR&P!!!!   Not what I was hoping that you would hear.  I was really (REALLY) hoping that you went through thyroid surgery for no real reason and just have a nice double smile now.  cr@p!!!

Okay, here's a link for staging thyroid cancer:  http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_4_3X_How_is_thyroid_cancer_staged_43.asp

Since you are young, you have Stage I (right now, the RAI will tell if it is stage II).  If you were over 45 you would have Stage III or Stage IVa.   Don't panic - my youngest sister would have been Stage IVC (since hers spread to her breasts).  She is completely clean now!!!

The key now is to talk to your doctor and see if the rest of your thyroid tissue needs to be "cleaned up" before RAI or if they should just go ahead and "nuke" you.

My vote?  Get the other half out ASAP and get nuked!!!  Too high a chance of microcancers lurking in the remaining tissue.

(I am miffed at the pathologist that they couldn't find cancer in the 2.2cm tumor so they could just take the entire thing out at the hospital - now you're in my shoes looking at a second surgery!  Grrr)

Huge hugs to you my friend, to your family, and to your Mom (so cool Mom is on here!)

Get the other side out.  No ? in my mind.  No ? .. you can try to post to Dr. Lupo this and your other post combined into one if you can get on with him.  Tell him in the post I recommended you post there again....(reference me as CC9, thyroid co-cl).

I wrote the other post b4 I read this .... it seems it may have not been 100% encapsulated; has minimum invasion.  Get it out and you will be ok.

Hang in there  ... I don't send [[[ hugs ]]]] to often but want to tonight,

C~
