Itchy rash

I have had a rash for ages, when I scratch it , it comes up in bumps that turn red and bleed.
I have just found out I have an over active thyroid gland and the doc says she couldnt say if the rash is anything to do with it..It started almost 3 years a go mainly in one place but only just recently spread over the last couple of months.which is when i lost around 14lbs of weight.
it drives my crazy at night . tried all sorts of creams but it just appears in a different place.
I have been given carbimazole 2x 20mg each morning until I see the specialist.
do you think the meds will clear the rash?

Hi Stella I dont understand it all I just asked the doc was what my levels were and what they should be and thats all she said. that the test came back as I am at 40 and it needs to go down to 20 or less...she didnt give me any other clues to anything else...
I think she did say the test was for f3 though..

WAIT... WAIT ..... WAIT... re- read your lab sheet on this.

40? and now 20? - ( with beta blockers?!?!?!)  ahhhh....... this information does not jive in my head...

" Here is what you said - "Hiya Stella I got to know today my thyroid level is at 40 and was told it should really be under 20...my pulse was 120 so I got to take some beta blockers now until my levels drop. "

What "thyroid labs" exactly did you have. This sounds like a TSH test. IF so - are you sure the numbers aren't

4.0
and
2.0?

That decimal is very VERY important on this. Please re clarify those labs and what test you took first.

Yes I think your right about the trend after child birth....

I had two sections with my children 1st was breach and second child I had protein in my water and blood pressure was a little high so they recommended it .

I am understanding more and more and my take on it is - It seems having a baby and right after the birth - the hormones after delivery are going haywire all over the place. Not just thyroid and I believe the thyroid plays little part in the bash session of hormones trying to regroup. But if let's say you had a weakness in some type of hormone - example, progesterone... and it wouldn't matter if it was low or high - after delivery - that level plays a huge role in a multitude of other hormones. If it doesn't balance out kinda quickly - then because of the upset - other things are starting to break down too.

My thyroid disease was not detected until after I gave birth to both my son's - years later - but as I look back I am sure - I was hyperthyroid for years before it was found. It seems to be the common trend after child birth that hyperthyroidism is more common then hypo.

Hiya Stella, after having my 2nd baby 3yrs ago I got a very itchy rash down below I was treated for thrush it didnt work. It drove me mad at night . then is started on toes and ankles so they gave me treatment for scabies which didnt work either.
There for they told me it was Eczema so I got steroid cream which helped a lit and some moisturiser.... I did have a lil trouble sleeping but I thought it was due to breast feeding and getting up every couple of hours.
Anyway its only recentley that the rash has spread to my shins hands arm and bottom its looking a mess and also lost atound 16 pounds of weight in last 3 months,,my heart also races.. Im wondering if my thyroid has been slightly over active a while but maybe just got higher latley for me to lose weight. I havnt got my reading but I will try get hold of it on wednesday when I go back to the doctors...she had no idea if the rash was from this and when i mentioned to the chemist the man said he hadnt heard of the rash with throid and said it sounds like psoriasis...I think its the over active throid but would it of started 3 yrs ago? who knows! Thankyou gor getting back I really appreciate any help because no one here at home seems to know.

If your T3 levels are high and your doctor has determined you are hyperthyroid - having this rash is common.

Do you have your labs available to post?

The carbimazole is the anti thyroid treatment drug to see if medication will bring down the level and that could work to rid this symptom you are having. Benadryl is also something many doctors try to see if this helps rid that rash.

Was the rash the only thing you had or did you have other hyperthyroid symptoms that made you go to the doctor and get tested?

Thanks, I will mention that to my doctor as she said there is nothing else she can give me for the rash.  I was wondering if it would go on its own when my treatment kicks in only been on the med for four days.

Before thyroid treatment, I got that rash when my FT3 levels were high. Docs kept telling me it was Shingles. After the tenth episode of Shingles, I knew it was something else.

One thing I read on this site which has helped me is a beta blocker one (allergy) and two (heartburn) combo. I take Zantac in the am and Zyrtec at night.
