Has anyone who is Hypothyroid have any problems with LOW BLood pressure?

Has anyone who suffers from Hypothyroidism have any problems with their blood pressure being too low?  I have read a lot of sites that have covered hypothyroidism and HIGH blood pressure.  But I do not now nor have I ever had High Blood pressure.  On an average I run around 90/70 but there are times when I can feel my blood pressure dropping and when I do it is always with the following symptoms:  I just want to sleep, no matter how much work there is still to be done, and I get a little foggy in my brain.  Over time I learned to test my blood pressure when I started to feel that way.  Two weeks ago I was feeling that way and tested it at the local grocery store and I was  97/58 with a normal pulse rate.  I have asked Dr's repeatedly how low is to low and get told nothing usually.  Out of sheer desperation I asked the local pharmacist for suggestions on what to do when I felt that way.  The answer was shockingly simple and yet has at least partially helped me out.  That answer was get some Gatorade and drink it.  She said it was the salt and electrolytes that I was needing.  It's not a cure  but it does seem to help me in any case.  I just want to know am I the only one out there that has LOW Blood pressure with this?

thanks!

There is always the possibility that your meds are incorrect or inadequate also.   If you will please post your thyroid test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report, members will be happy to help interpret.

If your average is at 90/70, you are at the bottom of the normal range, which most consider from 90/60 to 130/80 The pharmacist is right about Salt and electrolytes, although Hypothyroid does increase blood pressure as Hyper lowers it. Maybe you should have some labs done to make sure you are not borderline and bouncing back and forth between Hypo and Hyper, you might be better finding an Endocrinologist the is experienced at treating thyroid. Instead of ignoring your concerns like your present MD.

You sound like me. I had a partial thyroidectomy a few years back and am now borderline hypo. My blood pressure is always low, usually 90/60 but sometimes it's 88/59, it varies. And I drink low calorie gatorade AND coconut water daily, plus tons of water. I think where we may differ is that along with the low blood pressure I have a very fast heart beat and heart palpitations. I feel like I have a mix of both hyper and hypo symptoms, but the labs say I'm borderline hypo.

My blood pressure sometimes goes really low, too.  I called the doctor one day when it was 93/61; the nurse said that it should not go below 95/60, but if I don't have symptoms,  it was probably okay; then she said if I had any symptoms at all, I needed to call an ambulance and go to the hospital.

I've had hypertension for years and am on benazepril and atenolol to control it.

I don't know a lot about m50y thyroid results yet haven't been able to actually speak to the Dr.  Was in for an office visit last week with my children and asked the nurse what they had found out from my blood work.  She told me they wanted me to set up an appointment and come in and talk to them.  I was able to get from her that my thyroid level right now is at 300.  Not overly surprising since I hadn't been on medicine in a year due to lack of insurance.  I recently started a new job that has benefits so I can finally get everything I need to maintain my thyroid levels.    They did get me back on meds of 50mcg of synthroid again.   thanks for everyone's comments it's nice to know I'm not the only having issues with the low end of blood pressure with this.

Is your thyroid being treated by TSH levels only?  When do you see your doctor again?  Do make sure you get a copy of the lab results; I'd like for you to post them, along with the reference ranges, which vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own report.

Just wanted to add a correction to a post. HYPER make you hyper thus giving you a fast pulse and sometimes high blood pressure, and hypo does the complete opposite. Your BP is not dangerously low. Once your bottom number drops under 50 it's considered low. Hypo slows everything down, that's why you'll find that most ppl who are hypo have lower temperatures and lower blood pressure.
