sorry, FREE T3 and FREE T4 ...
When I was first diagnosed as Hyper, I have been prescribed the Propranolol and methimazole... Around September of last year until August of this year I had stopped taking them until I was hospitalized and put back on them... I have an appointment at McKinney in 4 weeks and will be sure to get them to my FREE T# and FREE T4 while I am there...
What meds had you been off from for a year?
Fatigue/tiredness is a symptom of, both, hyper and hypo, as well as other chronic conditions.
Even though your FT4 was high, we still don't know what your FT3 was/is doing and that's the hormone that correlates best with symptoms. Be sure to get that tested next time you have blood work.
and when I asked the doctor about being tired at the same time as feeling energetic, the headaches and nausea, he said that those things were caused by my medicine because the medication for high blood pressure is also an anticoagulant...
Thank you for your reply...I will definitely do that if i do have more tests... he wants me to come back in 4 weeks but the thing about this clinic I go to, I have never seen the same doctor twice..
I was looking at my tests from when i was in the hospital taken on 8/21/13 and those have the T4FREE 6.30 (H) RR 0.80-2.20
TSH-- <0.01(L) RR 0.47-4.68
But when those tests were taken i had been off of my meds for a year with the exception of the 2 days before the tests were taken..
As I pointed out in my first post, while Hashimoto's is, typically, associated with hypothyroidism, because that's what you'll ultimately end up with, it can often be characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism in the beginning. According to your antibody tests, you DO have Hashimoto's, but you ARE hyper.
The problem is that some of the tests your doctor ordered are obsolete and not very valuable. Both the T4 and T3 tests are Total, and both are obsolete. Of that total T4 and Total T3, the majority of it will be bound by protein and unavailable for conversion or use. He should have tested for Free T4 and Free T3, which are the unbound portion of the Total T4 and Total T3 and what's available for use.
Are you scheduled to have more blood work before you see the endo in January? If so, make sure you get tested for FREE T3 and FREE T4, not the totals.
From the symptoms you describe, you should also get tested for diabetes.
He said yesterday that it wasnt Graves Disease and was telling me about Hashimoto's.. so I said, Okay, so its not Hyperthyroidism its Hasimoto's?? and He said, No you still have the hyperthyroidism too...
I have been trying to read up on this stuff but for the Hashimoto's, it says that it is linked with hypo and has "bouts" of hyper... but i have been diagnosed with Hyper for the past 4-3-4 years and have never once been Hypo that I know of
I apologize, i have no idea what kinds of tests these are... I have been going to a clinic but have not been to an Endocrinologist yet... have an appointment scheduled for January... All they say at the McKinney Clinic is that I am having Lab Work or Blood Testing... wait, these are the results from blood work and an ECG...
My symptoms are not being able to sleep, increased heart rate (sometimes with an extra beat and sometimes skips a beat), terrible shaking, i forget everything, cant concentrate, headaches, weight loss with increased appetite, i have a goiter, feel like i have excessive amounts of energy but dont even want to move, constantly thirsty, very heat intolerant and now that the weather is changing, i am staying cold, excessive sweating, and the list goes on but i cant think of them at the moment... I am prescribed Propranolol and Methamizole and they keep me from shaking and stop my heart from beating so fast..
ok, here are my test results... (RR=Reference Range)
Ill just start off with what is abnormal and if you need any of the others, just let me know...
Alkaline Phosphatase 141(H) RR 39-117
(TPO) Ab 98.4(H) RR <35.0
Thyroglobuin Antibody <20.0 RR <40.0
RBC 5.42 (H) RR 3.87-5.11
T4 13.0(H) RR 5.0-12.5
TSH <0.008(L) RR 0.350-4.500
T3 215.2(H) RR 80.0-204.0
Thank you in advance for your help because i am totally lost...
Forgot to ask if you've been tested for Graves Disease? Both Graves and Hahimoto's are autoimmune, so please post whatever antibody tests you've had done, along with actual thyroid hormone levels.
While Hashimoto's is, typically, associated with hypothyroidism, it can be characterized by periods of hyperthyroidism, in the early stages..
I agree with gimel, that you should post the results of the tests you have. Be sure to include reference ranges, which vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report.
Please post all your test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report. Also, please tell us about any other symptoms besides the A-Fib.
