Heart Palpitations

I was just wondering if one is more likely to get heart palpitations when thyroid levels are low vs high?

I referred to both books when my brain went into 'Brain Fog Mode' or my Graves turned into "Graves Rage Mode'.
I dint agree with everything I read but both books taught me one thing......
I wasnt crazy after all those years!
It also helped when I would forget what symptoms meant what and also when I felt anxious.
I still keep the books beside my bed and gained a lot of knowledge from those books.
I think if you keep an open mind but also use the books as reference guides, then you cant go wrong.

Mary's website has some pretty good info also if you haven't already checked it out http://www.thyroid-info.com/

I might get that Hyper book to.. I'm beginning to think I may be in that range now. Lol

That bokk was a lifesaver for me so was The Hyperthyroidism one she wrote.
I brought the Hyper one first then the Hypo one before having RAI.
I guess I must be at the end of my 'rainbow' now as I havent picked up either books in over 4 months lol.
I wanted 'quality of life' and wasnt prepared to stop until I got it.
I now have it Juliva....just as you will soon.
The most hated word at the beginning for me was 'PATIENCE' of which I had none lol.
I think I am now the most patient person going as it has been a long journey that I have finally now come to 'accept' and have peace of mind with.
I no longer 'panic' if I feel hyper/hypo....I know what to do and do it.
I remember many times where I couldnt remember if I had taken my thyroxin and I would have a major panic attack thinking I was going to die lol!
Boy...have those days long gone! lol

Patience is a virtue as they say......the person who wrote that saying was brilliant lol.
Good Luck :)

HI ChitChatNine, thank you so much for telling me your story it gives me some kind of deadline and hope for my levels. Lol! I was DX with hypothyroidism with a 2.2 cm nodule about 8-9 years ago. In the fall of 2007 Ultra Sound suggested possible cancer.. however, I wasn't told the results for nearly one year nor were test results ever sent to my Endo ; /

In the fall of 2008 NB showed changes in papillary cells suggesting high risk so right PTT was done in fall of 2008. No cancer in Path.

I just had my Vit. levels checked and that's ok and yes now I always call and get my test results : )

Hello and WELCOME!

What is your history for having the PTT if I may ask?  I had a partial in 1/07 and it took 10mos to regulate my levels and then they are all over the place yet again 2yrs later along with severe Vit D deficiency which now is back to normal after 8 weeks of meds + monitoring . . . My symptoms were all over the place with the Vit D problems, too, but my symptoms are gone which were all hypo which made me go to the doc in the first place and my TSH was 1.3 !!!!

Go figure LOL ....

C~
partial 1/07
papillary micro's found
orig 2 nodules totally benign

Smilerdeb, I have a Endo that suggests having my blood drawn every 3 months but does give me a open lab. Even after my partial TT his recommendation was the same : /  5-6 weeks into it I upped my own levothyroxine and when I did have the labs done 6 week later I was still hypo. I'm hoping I'll level off soon but I'm not sure what the norm is after PTT. I'm learning to take hold of my treatment and  not just assume if the Doctor says it's ok it is! It is a battle though with little knowledge.

I've been reading a book by Mary Shomon~ Living Well With Hypothyroidism "What your Doctor Doesn't tell you...That you need to know"  it's been Heaven sent for me! I found that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is very common with being Hypo so is Tarsal (Feet) Tunnel which now explains why I had awful numbness/burning/tingling in my feet on and off over the past 5 years. This book is priceless and I recommend it highly!

I hope you get to feeling better soon too!

lol Juliva....I have been like this before before I had RAI done.
I would go from hyper to hypo to hyper again, all in 2 weeks from the Carbimazole.
I am pretty much used to meds reacting so fast but wasnt prepared for the TSH to go so high!
So as per usual, Ive increased my T4 and 2 weeks later ..its now 4.1 so once again increased and will go back in 2-3 weeks for labs.
I only increase each time by 12.5mcg as I am super drug sensitive.
But was level for quite a while prior to the flu.

You are in a different ballgame (so to speak) with only one side of the thyroid functioning. You still have to have regular labs and may need an increase/decrease depending on the thyroid function.

Hope4thegoodstuff, I don't believe mine is from a allergic reaction I've been on the same med for 8 years and have had the dizziness and heart palps before which I would contribute to my levels getting off because I haven't had any other allergic S/S. Hopefully, you'll find the same.

Smilerdeb, "Wow" I knew levels could be affected by the Flu but I didn't realize just how much or that quick! I just can't help wonder if I might start chasing after my levels if I do find it changed from the Flu? Won't my levels "level back out" once I'm better? Before surgery I stayed pretty level and I'm hoping to find that perfect/correct dose now that I'm functioning with a partial thyroid. I think I was getting close until I got sick.

I know one thing I sure have been given a education on Hypothyroidism S/S due to the abrupt lower levels due to my Partial TT. It's been a real awakening to say the least for me. S/S that I have experienced in the past and never related to my thyroid I now know for sure it was. Thanks everyone and have a Happy Easter! Juli

I'd get heart palps and dizziness when they first put me on synthroid.  I was being  treated for Hypo when I actually had Hashi's.  Both of those symptons were said to be possible signs of allergic reaction to the meds if you read those little drug info sheets that they give you when you get your meds.  And gee, I just can't wait as I have now  had my thyroid taken out and guess what the dr gave me.  Yep Synthroid.  So hopefully it was not an allergic reaction.  I have been told that as my thyroid was actually making thyroid, the synthroid was throwing me hyper, hence heart palps and dizziness.  I'm still waiting for RAI, so it will be awhile before I start taking meds again.

Get yr levels checked again once the flu goes away as I not long got over the flu where my TSH went from 2.3 to 6.1 in 2 weeks!
Obviosly I needed an increase and have just done another small increase so I would suggest you get yr levels done again soon so as to stay on the right track.
By the way, I get fast HR both Hyper and Hypo if thats any help but massive brain fog and confusion when Hypo.
Hope you are well soon. :)

Thanks everyone, I'm beginning to wonder if we've upped my meds just a little to much.. I also feel shaky inside and out (like being rattled from the inside) these past few days but I have been sick with the flu so maybe it's just that. I'll keep a eye on it. Thanks again. Juli

When I was taking too much medication my doc asked me if I was having palpitation.  I wasnt, but a assumed from the question that it must be one of the symptoms.

Yep, both hypo/hyper get them, BUT I believe the hyper gets them more due to fast metabolism.

Usually, they're associated with hyperthyroidism or overmedication, but I've also read of people that have them when they get hypo.  Not real helpful, huh?
