Thyroid surgery

I am scheduled for a TT next Friday and I am really getting nervous now. I am very thankful for this forum. Everyone has certainly answered alot of questions for me, although I still have tons more. I am almost on the verge of a panic attack. Why am I feeling like this? I have had 2 prior surgeries in the past, but this one is really getting to me. I guess because I am not sure about thing afterward and whether it is cancer or not. Thanks for listening.

For me it was "where it's located" moreso than surgery .. icky place and gave me the creepers for people to touch my neck.  And, this was after 4 babies and one major shoulder surgery.

Before my surgery I had lost 60 pounds and I was very concerned about putting the weight back on. I have gained about 6 pounds this last month but my doctor says that this should come off easily once I begin the synthroid (which I started 2 days ago) I guess weight gain should not be our big concern, however, if you are like me I find it much easier than I lose it. I am sure everything will turn out well for you. Try not to worry.
Take care

Thanks so much for the info. So the surgery is not that bad? I have had two other surgeries before, but I am just really nervous this time. I have read about people having a hard time with their energy level and weight gain. I have already gained weight in the last few months and I definately do not need to gain anymore. I just hope everything turns out ok. Again thanks everyone for the advice.

I am pretty new to all of this too. I had a TT on July 17, and I can tell you as far as the surgery went it was not bad at all. I had little or no pain and I went shopping two days later. (I know I may have just been a lucky one). I do understand how you feel about the waiting for results. I did know that mine was cancerous before the surgery. You have to keep telling yourself that even worse case scenerio, thyroid cancer is very treatable and you have to just stay positive. I just finished my radioactive iodine treatment today so I am hoping to be well on my way to recovery. You hang in there and I am sure things will go well for you. If I can anwser any questions for you just let me know. I am not a pro by any means but I will be glad to help you with any questions. This forum has helped me a lot with questions that I have had.

Hi Vicky,

This thyroid business really works on ones nerves! Perhaps its the waiting and wondering that makes it worse?  I'm normally calm and relaxed but I have really had a hard time since I discovered my one big nodule.  I'm having a lobectomy on 19/8, not long after you.  I'l think of you on the 14th.

Just keep asking questions. We all benefit from reading the answers! This forum is such a help and I have calmed down so much due to the wonderful responses here.  I hope you'll feel calmer soon and that it will be a breeze for you!
