How can I find the causes of hyperthyroidism?

Just got back radioiodine uptake tests. 4 hr 15.7%, 24 hr 42.7%. Both high. I understand there are many causes of an overactive thyroid. What tests can I take to find out what's causing it? E.g. too much or not enough of a vitamin or mineral.

Usually the RAIU test is done along with a thyroid scan (the pattern of uptake will provide an indication of the diagnosis (eg: Graves disease, multinodular goitre, thyroiditis). Along with the RAIU and scan, thyroid antibodies also need to be tested - TPOAb, TgAb and TSI.
