Thyroid messing with reproductive system

I am going in to the doctor on Friday to get a severe abdominal pain checked thats more in the area of my right ovary. I've had pain there for the last 6 months just during ovulation and my menstrual time. But this time its been present for 3 weeks straight. I just wonder how bad your thyroid really messes with your reporductive system. I know its suppose to mess up your cycle but mine has always been normal and on time. Exactly 30 days. But it has gotten heavier, more painful cramps and longer...like 10 days.  but this pain is always in the same spot and so bad sometimes that I can't move for up to 10 min.

Does anyone else with hypo-thyroidism have problems with cysts or pain like i'm having.

I'm so nervous that its something serious and will prevent me from having more children.

Thanks for your help/advice.

Don't rush with the "baby" thing.  You are still young.  Normally doctors say after 35 its gets a bit more difficult.  As far as soda, that also has a lot of caffeine and daily consumption of soda can give you cysts, even in the breast.  But, of course, you should consult with your physician.  Take care of yourself and find a back-up person.  Your health is just as important as your little ones!  If you are not ok, then they won't be ok.  Thyroids are nothing to mess around with.  It affects people in many different ways.  Take it from me (someone who's had thyroid issues since 18 years old and I am now 36), caffeine did cause me to get cysts in my ovaries, and hypothyroids did cause me to have long heavy periods every 21-24 days, instead of every 28 days.  I recommend you take your thyroid meds as directed!  Normally doctors ask that we take it on an empty stomach with a full glass of water every day at the same time.  (depends which meds you take)  I can't stress how important this is.  I take it first thing when I wake up with a fulll glass of water because if I eat, the affects of the meds do not work well for me.  I can tell when my body is off.  I also have a standing bloodwork order for every three months because my body is sensitive and my levels shift often, and I am trying to conceive.  Its definately affecting my cycles, and ovulation.  Good luck hope this helps.  Take care of yourself and your health!  Its important that you do!

I know I should have gone to the dr a long time ago but its hard to get to a dr with 3 kids and no sitter. I even run a daycare out of my home and my back up usually has an excuse not to help me. I lucked out and don't have to watch any kids friday and found a sitter for my youngest so I can go get checked out.  I do drink a lot of caffiene, just soda. I tried to stop a while ago but its hard to deal with the withdrawls. I guess I really have to give it up this time and get on a better diet. I'm 30 and we plan on trying for another baby next year. Maybe we should start now cause it may  take a long time.

Thanks for responding.

I have hypothyroid.  Ive had it for many years.  Unfortunately, thyroid disease does affect many things!!  Fertility and Menstrual cycles are big ones.  But, many people with the disease are able to conceive.  If your levels are normal, and you take care of yourself, it is possible to get pregnant again.  I have three children.  as you get older, with thyroid disease and with age, it does become more difficult.  I have two sisters, ages 38 and 34.  Both have hypothyroid and both do not have children.  Don't let this discourage you.  If you are having problems with cysts and cramping, consult with an OBGYN.  I know that thyroid disease contributes to longer heavier periods and make them abnormal.  But, I am not too sure about the cysts and cramping.  Caffiene plays a big role in women getting cysts.  Birth control pills do regulate periods, cysts and cramping for some women.  Six months is a long time to go through that pain on your side.  Good luck.  Hope you get better.
