Hyperthyroidism & Osteoporosis

I am foremally nurselpn...

I was treated for hyperthyroidism due to Graves disease in 2005 w/(RAI). I  beleive I was hyper on & off for approx. 7 years then trully hyper for 3 years before dx..  I'm currently taking Armour 90mg BID. My TSH has been kept a little low but my free T's are within normal limits at about mid range.

I have two quick questions:

1.) I heard a pharmasist say that the drug companies are going to stop making Armour...he said he can no longer get the generic version
because the drug companies stopped making it & he believes the brand name  Armour is going to be stopped too. I do know that I can no longer buy the generic equivulant anywhere.  Have you heard anything about this?

2.)  I feel really stupid for asking this question. Two weeks ago I had a medical test,(stereotactic biopsy), where I had to lay on my abd/side for over an hour. In the middle of the test I had intense pain in my lateral rib are where I was laying. I could barely breathe & the pain was intensified with inspiration. The radiologist said that was a first for him doing that procedure, he had never  had that happen before. My ribs are slowly improving over time but I'm wondering if I have a stress fracture.  I haven't seen my family physican for it because I know nothing can be done except no aggravation to the area & let it heal. My next scheduled appt. with my doctor is in March. Do you think I need a bone density & does my thyroid history pre-dispose me to Osteoporosis?

Thank you so much for your time,
God Bless

Yes, thyroid problems do predispose you to osteoporosis.  Ask for a bone density test.  I went from bones being very dense to the threshold of osteoperosis in just over 3 years due to the thyroid problems and lack of estrogen.
