Is it really my thyroid

My TSH level is 4.95, and my T4 is apprently normal. My doctor first told me that it is a combination of my age plus my thyroid. I cannot accept this. I have been on Eltroxin (0.05mg) for 3 months and it has made absolutely no difference. I do exercise and eat very healthy. I had a tumor on my Pituitary gland, which was removed in 1993. I don't understand why the T3 level was not checked, as maybe the T4 are unable to convert to T3? Why was the prolactin in my blood not checked either?
I started to take extra "alternative" medication from Solal Technologies (started 2 days ago only).
I am, over and above the Eltroxin, taking Thyroid Support Formula, their Burnout product to support the Andrelin gland and also Pantethine-300 to help with the weight aroung my waist.
What next?

The TSH level of 4.95 was before I started the Eltroxin. I will request a copy of the lab test results, I will at the same time request for the free T3 and free T4 test to be done.
Thanks so much for the info, I am desperate to sort this as soon as possible and don't want to do anything stupid along the way.

Although TSH is a pituitary hormone that does not correlate very well at all with hypo symptoms, your TSH is well beyond the currently recommended level of .3 - 3.0.  Was this before or after starting on Eltroxin?
To help us better understand, please post your T4 test result and reference range.  If you don't have the info, you should always get a copy of your lab test results and keep for reference.  The doctor is required to give you a copy upon request.

To know where you are with your meds currently, I strongly suggest that you ask to also be tested for  free T3 and free T4 (not total T3 and total T4).  Free, in this case, means not bound up with protein.  The "Frees" are the biologically active part of thyroid hormone, that largely regulate metabolism and other body functions.  Free T3 is the most important because it is four times as potent as free T4 and free T3 correlates best with hypo symptoms.
If you will get these tests done and post the results and reference ranges here, members can give you the best response.
