Anti-tpo 3591 HH: can anyone tell me what this means?  I am trying to get a refferal to an endo and the doctor I go to wants me to come in and talk to her about it.  My insurance doesn't require me to get a refferal but the endo does.  She better give it to me.  The nurse said we have to make sure it won't be a waste of the endo's time.  The nerve of her that is unbelievable.  Anyway just had to vent, my appt. with the regular doc is tommorrow.  I just noticed on my blood work from 8/4/08 it said my anti-tpo is 3591HH, It is the first time I noticed this and the regular doc has never mentioned it, she probably didn't even see it.  Any help on these results would be greatly appreciated. It's almost Friday! G

Tell that nurse that when she is in a position to give referrals herself that you would appreciate her keeping her comments to herself. Ask her if she would like to walk in your shoes right now ?

No don;t do that .... that's just a vent :)

If you want an endo to treat you - then your doctor by law cannot - NOT give you a referral.

Just be aware that you want to find a thyroid endo and not one that is just in tune with diabeties.

That is hard to find and you must ask that before wasting YOUR time - not the doctors.

That is a measurement of an antibody called Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies.

That is a very high test result and strongly indicates an autoimmune condition.

If you are being treated for hypothyroidism, it indicates Hashimoto's Disease. If you are having preliminary thyroid tests run, it means you have an autoimmune condition and your thyroid may be in trouble.

The lab limit is 50 or 60. Anything above is positive. Over 1,000 is common but serious. 3,600 is pretty high. Not trying to scare you. It's just that the level is significant. It strongly says autoimmune thyroid problem. What type requires more tests.

Good luck at your appointment.
