Is it possible to perform a thyroid transplant?

If a person has a bad heart, we give that person a heart transplant.

In theory, is it physically and medically possible to give someone with a bad thyroid, a thyroid transplant?

If a person could receive a new thyroid, would this person have to take anti-rejection medication for the rest of his life?

Has a thyroid transplant actually been done before?

Without reading the link above.

My answer is that with a bad heart, t here is NO medication that will allow you to simply live without the heart.

With thyroid, there IS medication that you can take to continue to live without a thyroid gland.  And it is DRAMATICALLY less expensive that a thyroid transplant would be even if it was possible.

So with such a reasonable and inexpensive (relatively) alternative.  No one I don't think would undertake the thyroid gland  transplant.

Just my opinion.

Very interesting article and promising, even if those of us with Hashimoto's would be left out as possible receivers for the time being.
