OMG--->what a coincidence!!! I set my alarm for 5 am to take my synthroid too.
As for the Melatonin, I take it more for the other benefits I've read about it (supposedly helps regulate menstrual cycles, keeps you young etc.) than for sleep
yes I am hypothyroid and i've had problems sleeping...for a while PURE melatonin (with no B6) worked, then I had to add 5HTP..but now I take Ambien. I am trying to go back to just melatonin and 5HTP because a.) I don't want to be dependent on the Ambien and b.) bc my insurance doesn't cover it . However I've had GREAT results with Ambien. It helps me fall asleep within 30 minutes of laying down and I've NEVER ever been able to do that! Best of luck!
What time of day do you take the Synthroid. I have found that taking it before bed seems to keep me awake sooooo, I take it around 5 a.m. and then go back to sleep until seven....sleep like a baby. The Melatonin recommendation is a good one too.
Good luck
I don't have any sleep issues, but I too noticed that my symptoms got worse after starting synthroid. That struck me as completely illogical until someone (from this forum) pointed out that it was likely my hypo-t condition was naturally getting worse before the new meds had taken full effect.
As for sleep, have you tried a mild dose of melatonin?
Best of luck with your meds....I hope things improve for you soon?

It takes about 5-6 weeks for the med to build up in your system so you get the full effect. Poor sleep pretty much goes along with thyroid issues, it seems.
What are your latest test results (from your lab report, along with the reference ranges)? What dosage synthroid are you on and when are you scheduled to be retested? Do you have Hashimoto's?
