Thanks! sent you a PM back...
Just sent a PM with info on doctors. To access, just click on your name and that takes you to your personal page. Then click on messages.
Thank you. I've thought of Hashi's since he has to eat Gluten Free. He's supposedly not Celiac but his growth was almost non-existent til off gluten. I've read there is a correlation though so I'll try (although I've found some doc really don't budge from their perspective).
I'm waiting on the Vit-D (his was really low the last was 22 after supplementing so it was upped). That should be back tonight. I'll ask about the B-12.
Also I think I saw where you had some names of good Endo's in the KC area? Would you mind PM'ing me with the info? I would so appreciate it!
And thank you for all the info. :)
I suggest that you should really emphasize to the Endo all the symptoms that your son exhibits that may be hypo related. You should also emphasize that his Free T4 is too low in the range and suggest that he needs to be re-tested for TSH, Free T4, and Free T3 (don't let them get by with testing Total T3). Since Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is the most common cause for diagnosed hypothyroidism, you should also request for him to be tested for the antibodies of Hashi's. Those tests are Thyroid Peroxidase and Thyroglobulin antibodies, often listed as TPO ab and TG ab. With his lack of energy, Vitamin D and B12 would also be a good idea. You are the best advocate for your son, so be aggressive in pushing for those tests.
No I don't have it - it's the only one not posted so I can see it (argh). I was verbally given the information. Perhaps they ran the Total instead of Free? (although I'm fairly certain it was supposed to be free T3). He has an appointment next Wed. so I guess I can try to find it then. I just hope his Endo is progressive but it's a Children's Hospital so I'm guessing he'll probably follow the "conventional" track. sigh. It's just so frustrating as he's had no engergy for over a year now (and he can even go to sleep on ADHD meds - crazy).
Thank you for your help :)
I have looked and found every possible reference range for Free T3 and cannot find one anywhere near that. So I am puzzled. Do you have the lab report? If so, please post the measurement units for the T3 test.
Thank you for the reply =- it was free T3 value 153 ref: 55 - 209
Your son's symptoms and Free T4 point to hypothyroidism. To be more definitive, we really need to know the actual T3 result (is it total T3 or Free T3?), plus the reference range. Is there any way you can get the actual T3 result and reference range?
