Levothyroxine / Armour Hair loss

Does Levothyroxine cause hair loss?

Or does hair loss just occur due to the adjustment in hormone fluctuations?

Is Armour or Nature Thyroid a better option regarding hair loss or just the same?

We need the reference ranges that go with the Free T3 and Free T4 tests.  They will be shown on the lab report.

Hi  Gimel,
Because I have extreme muscle joint soreness, every step hurts. And my hair loss is EXTREME.

My TSH is currently 1.23 from 5.5 after only 4 weeks on 50 mcg levothyroxine generic.

TSH     - 1.23
Free T4 - 18.9
Free T3  - 5.6

She now put me on 25 mcg brand eltroxin, hope this does not make it worse as I am changing brand and potency in 1 go.

I'd say that in general, hair loss is due to inadequate levels of the active thyroid hormones, rather than a specific thyroid med.  In a previous thread, you listed your current thyroid test results, but did not provide the reference ranges for each test.  Ranges vary from lab to lab, so It is important to know the specific ranges for that laboratory, in order to assess where the results fall within the range.  FT3 and FT4 results that fall in the lower end of their range are frequently associated with having hypo symptoms, which include hair loss for some patients.

Why did your doctor decide you were overmedicated?
