Need Advice on Doses; Levothyroxine to Armour

Yesterday my new doctor started me on Armour. I have been taking generic synthroid after having  a TT in January 2008. The adjustment issues have been a rollercoaster and I was hyper-sensitive to the synthroid as well. Since I am  57, and healthy, my new doc suggested I begin taking (1) 30 mgs per day. My body was used to receiving 112 mgs of Levothyroxine until today. Is 30 mgs of Armour enough or should I take 60mgs.? She really left it up to me and how I was feeling. If I did not feel well, I could call and she would prescribe additional tabs. Any advice here?

Hi there...hope you are feeling better. Okay the conversion charts are a good place to start. First of all you need to start at a lower dosage if you have sensitivity issues. So 30mgs might not be a bad idea for the first week. Usual starting dosage to those who can handle it is 60mgs. Then you increase every 2-3weeks and do blood draws every 4 weeks. If you go to the health pages at top right corner, then you can go to armour info and at the bottom you will find the link to take you to the armour prescribing info sheet. Print this and take it to your dr. It explains proper increasing and testing. It is diff than the synthetics.
Okay...breathe....1 grain or 60mgs. of armour would be approx 88-100mcg of levo or synthroid. 1/4 grain equals approx 25mcg levo or synthroid. You will increase by 1/4 anyways. Also, make sure you break your daily dosage into at least 2 dosages. Get a pill splitter.
See our link here for those of us on armour#2 and you will have numerous people to help you. Stella and I are both here for you with armour advice! :)
I will bump the link for you.

Hello, as far as I am aware you don't need to take as much Armour as Synthroid as Armour already has T3 which does not need converting in the body.
