TSH is a pituitary hormone and should not be used as the sole criteria for determining dosage of thyroid medication. TSH fluctuates greatly, even intraday, so the fact that it went from 0.07 to 0.9 in 2 weeks is not surprising.
The FT3 and FT4 are the results you need to watch. FT4 is a storage hormone and must be converted to FT3, which is the hormone actually used by the individual cells. Rule of thumb is that FT4 should be about mid range; yours is exactly 50%, which is right on. Rule of thumb for FT3 for people to feel their best is in the upper 1/3 of the range....... yours is on the floor of its range.
Indications are that you may not be converting the FT4 to the usable FT3, and could probably benefit from a small dose of a T3 medication. You should talk to your doctor about this.
I use Labcorp and the reference ranges for the TSH is .450 - 4.5.
T4, Free(Direct) is 0.82 - 1.77, and Triiodothyronie, free, serum is 2.0 to 4.4.
So it looks like I am in the normal range. But I have only been on new meds for 2 weeks, Is there any way my tsh would go up that fast....
I did not have my FRRE T4 and Free T3 drawn in December.. For whatever reason Im not sure why they didnt order it.
But they did draw my Total T4 in december and it 9.8 on a reference scale of 4.5 - 12.0.
Wonder if she shouldnt have changed my med?
What are the reference ranges for the Free T3 and Free T4? Ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report.
We also need to know what your previous labs (FT3 and FT4) were, so we have something to compare your current labs to. Looks like your FT3 might be very low in the range.
