Ethanolol injection (PEI) is a viable option for non-malignant nodules. I've also read that they can and do sometimes shrink. If the nodule isn't causing a problem I'd say proceed cautiously - that's what I'm doing for mine.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I am on a similar journey myself as I have a large nodule of the left lobe of my thyroid. I was told by 2 doctors that surgery was the only option whether I chose to wait or not. They said that they may grow slowly or even potentially stop growing but that they would not shrink. I am not convinced as I believe that with the right support my body has the ability to heal itself. I am on some herbal treatments and am going to an acupuncturist on Monday. If you would be willing to pass along the results of that study I would really appreciate it.
Much Love and Many Blessings
this is a really old post and a lot of the folks who contributed may not still be around. I highly doubt anyone found a magic potion to shrink nodules.
Did homeopathy or anything else help you?
Well Homeoopathy has worked for many of my health issues in the past and i am now going back to see if this will help with my Nodules. as they are quite large.
I am also seeing a herbalist who has looked into seaweed solutions.
Will keep you posted.
lol! Yes - never thought hocus pokus was me! Desperation or what!!? Yes -indeed thx for your wise encouragement -ur right that I shldnt ignore advice of doc. Denial must be part of the mix for some newbies? But ONLY because of 2nd opin on path- have been able (with doc's ok) to garner a tiny bit of unexpected playground time; would hate myself if I didn't at least try the other sandbox as worry that am running outa bits to chop out! xx
There is absolutely none of this: "...alternative lotions, potions..." But there is an incredible amount of this: "...hocus pokus..."
(There's my stab at comedy.)
Seriously, I feel you should skip it all and go with the advice of your dr.
Take care.
Thx for those comments! I forgot about Bernie Siegel so when Borders opens tom--------worth maybe trading in yesterday's purchase of Wisdom from the Dalai Lama? No mention of thyroid in the appendix---what was I thinking!
http://www.itmonline.org/arts/thyroid.htm ------------------one of several acupuncture links I found helpful. 'The Acupuncture Response - Balance Energy and Restore Health - a Western Doctor Tell You How' by Glenn S. Rothfeld and Suzanne Levert is an easy intro read.
Will copy out the Lancet research citing role of iodine deficiency when I get it (it's a medical subsp) but from the verbal download I got from my sis - it sounds very promising!
The acupuncture received so far (4 sessions) has been amazingly powerful. My kidney chanel is being treated for yang deficiency. The theory goes that nodules are phleghm accumulation which needs heat to resolve, so lots of moxa, warming herbs and needling to move blood (hence 14 day period---thou Mirena removal implicated too) and improve qi. Kidney (water element) is related to fear, so perhaps the several weeks of panic weakened this, but this chanel (with the corresponding yin yang bladder and kidney organs) in TCM is related to thyroid. Have had a lot of fear in the last few years so am not surprised. Am not good either at putting a voice to my feelings, and having lost tonsils - what else in this chakra area after thyroid can be cut out! But with a normal coloured tongue after months of white - something is working! God forbid tongue is next!
Motivation is - to resolve underlying unwellness - the nodules are symptomatic but with follicular lessions - it's rather a game of Russian Roulette, no?, and the best wand may indeed be tad sharper than the tiny cute needles an currently new BBFs with!
The surgeons can be a persuasive lot and with 4 kids - the pressures we face to make the best treatment decisions are not for the faint hearted. Info and talent am discovering are key to abating some of this pressure, so thx for all your ideas and help to date!!!!!!
yeah - send me that link thought my inbox here
I have a magic wand...oh no that's right I broke it trying to fix my own lumpy thyroid! Hee hee. Have you read any of Bernie Siegels books? He was a great man who helped people cure their cancers. So, who knows, might be worth a look into.
i will definitly try acupuncture.this is my 2nd option before any test or biopsy. i have a friend also her nodules disappeared by acupuncture.
hope GOD will hear all my prayers i need more yrs. to live for my kids.
help me GOD.
I have a friend that swears acupuncture cured her.
I have absolutely no validation though.
Thx 898 for those ---- all useful suggestions ----good too you warned me about "home use" -lol--guess you got my number! by way of update --------
Father Xmas delivered a glorious pressie day before Xmas ------
2nd opinion from another Pathologist taken up by a 2nd opinion 'Endocrine' Surgeon (1st surgeon was only an 'ENT' surgeon) which was
--- a festively wrapped Nodule Downgrade from Thy4 to Thy3 ------ie reduction of the likelihood of the nodule (nearly 4cm) being malignant! Weyhey!!!! The pressie has bought me time (about 3 to 4 months) as both surgeons still chasing but------------am determined to try my best to avoid them seeing me in the buff!
Cue---- Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture and herbs that in trials have had 70percent shrinking success!---can give link if anyone interested?); yoga (deep shoulder stands and plough postures with heavy meditation-visualization sessions after deep hot baths and neck massage); castor oil packs; removal of Mirena (THIS is a serious badie I bet causing a lot of nodules in women!); intake of (yang oriented) warming foods to nourish qi and blood, with removal of foods that affect iodine uptake (ie brassica family), cool the body (ie salads) and make phleghm (ie dairy); vitamin D, and kelp supplements (Lancet research); end to alcohol and caffeine consumption
----------all yielding in the 2 weeks so far of 'Operation Desperation Tactics' ------a full night's sleep, complete end to tiredness and panic attacks (raging since the word "malignancy" was first uttered by surgeon number 1 some 4 weeks ago), a bleed of a lifetime!, a warm body at long last, and an incredible sense of control and well being that this will be OK .......
even if it ends with a gurney and a clip-boarded OR attendant collecting me in a few months time. : (
MORAL OF STORY ------------2nd Opinion (always!), and a willingness to think outside of the box with the help of both kind people --like this community, and 'ideas' -- however spurious they may seem! : )
Watch this space! Happy New Year Everybody!
in the past :
PEI have been tried for variety of thyroid tumors; now used for cysts only;
Laser ablation is on the trial;
But these procedures are not for "home use".
