I've actually been wondering for quite a while if thyroid meds could be delivered via "transderm patch", like they do with motion sickness meds, birth control hormones, etc. Yes, they would be especially great for delivering a continuous dose of T3, but they would have their uses for T4 also. For one, they would bypass the gut and all the interections with food and problems with absorbtion.
I actually emailed the question to Abbott a while back. They surprised me in that they actually called me within 24 hours. However, their reply was' "We have not investigated using the patch, and have no plans to investigate it."
I know some molecules are too big to go through the skin, but have no clue how big the T3 and T4 molecules are. Anybody know anything about this?
For admitting of T3 probably yes, for T4 it is not really necessary.
do you think it would it work taking the technology of an insulin pump but instead of using insulin, use thyroid hormones?
In theory, cloning the new thyroid tissue from stem cells and modiffying immune system so it would stop attcking the thyroid should take care of this problem; this approach was selected to treat the diabetes [without modifying genetics though]
Other than taking thyroid meds (Hormones) I have not heard of ant.
