Post thyroidectomy/esophagus burning

I had a thyroidectomy a week and a half ago.  I have been on synthroid for four days.  Yesterday I started having burning in my esophagus.  Could this be a side affect of the surgery, or of the synthroid?

To Vivi.  Sorry, I just recognized the name and realized that I had previously answered your own post.

To sjhay.   If the burning sensation was directly from the surgery, it probably would have  started much sooner.  Do you think that your burning sensation is acid reflux?  If so, I would think it could be related to having gone without any thyroid hormones for a week and becoming a bit hypo.  Acid reflux is a common side effect of hypothyroidism. How much synthroid are you taking?

Do you think this burning sensation you described is acid reflux?  Since your TT in July, has the doctor put you on thyroid medication?  Have you had any thyroid tests done since the TT?  If so, please post the results and reference ranges used by your lab, so that members can provide the best response.

I had TT in July and since then I have acid reflux. I had acid reflux 10 years ago and the doctor told me that I had mild esophagitus. But, I was fine for 10 years. I do not know what caused it this time. But, it is so serious that I had this burning feeling and some sour liquid came up to my mouth. I went to the doctor because I had phlegm on my throat. The doctor told me to take Prilosec for at least 6 months(twice a day). I do not like that. Medicine is poisonous. I decide to look into the food I eat and see if I can cure it. I try to avoid onion, tomatoes, pineapples, raw vegetables, and garlic. I boil the vegetables. If it is bad, I take tum. I am feeling better and the phlegm is less.

I don't know if this help. Hopefully you are feeling better.
