I have written down all of that lovely and specific info on mg and will post it on my refrigerator. Dan was watching me eat a banana yesterday and was taking particular delight and about fell off the mower when I nearly went into convulsions trying to swallow a large chunk. I thought if I could get it over with faster, eat bigger. Tiny bites for me. It takes longer, but I can swallow them whole if nothing else. I have ordered a juicer too. Thought I might be able to conjure something that way.
I love milk, I love baked potatoes and just about any kind of a bean. Someone gave me what seems like an awesome bran muffin recipe, either pumpkin or applesauce....Yep, I have options. That is a good thing with me. I like options.
Now for something totally unrelated. What are the best blue jeans in the world that you can work in as well as play in? Plus size. My husband is helping around the house and he is shrinking all of my blue jeans. He just dries them to a crisp. I have only gained three pounds and I can't wear a single pair of my jeans. How rude. : ) I'm off to the web to see what I can find. That failing, I'm headed to the western wear store down the road. You ladies have a great weekend.
Thanks everyone, Oh I love you all if you have saved me from banana insanity. I have been going to go do my own research and always find myself coming in here first. Then I get here and I never leave. You are the best.
I hate bananas too and was told to eat one everyday because of a heart condition.
I found the best alternative was cantelope.
But 'piggy me' likes to cut a whole one up and eat it 3-4 times a week lol. (hehehe)
I looked up on the net and discovered that apricots, baked potatoes, certain beans, brans, raisins, and a few other goodies have far more potassium than a banana! I reckon you could alternate your meals with something delish every day and still get your potassium without feeling like a monkey!
Orange juice has 496 mg of potassium in one 8 oz glass. A medium banana has 560mg.
1/2 a cantaloupe has 825mg. A glass of milk has 400mg. Potatoes, lentils, spinach, lima beans, navy beans, are all good sources as well. Me? I'll take a glass of orange juice or a cantaloupe. I already drink a lot of milk!
Our estimated requirement for potassium is 2,000 mg/day.
Hope this helps! I work in a pharmacy (20 years), and the recommendation for patients
taking potassium depleting medication has alway been "eat a banana or drink a glass
of orange juice each day"
I don't know what the deal is with me, but if a banana is even the tiniest bit green, kind of a sour? flavor to it? It makes me gag. I had a heck of a time today trying to eat a banana. But a lady at the store says she takes potassium pills and they are worse. She advised I eat the banana. : )
You can to Google "Natural Potassium" or try Avocado's FTB4
